My unpopular opinion is that a movie with less known actors are better.
Because you will always associate the famous actors from other movies and it takes away the realism of the movie that you are watching.
Don’t get me wrong there are plenty of amazing talented actors and actresses but i don’t want to see theses faces regularly.

You couldn’t have provided a single example for this one? Really? Would have massively helped your case but alright then
With certain movies it can definitely be distracting. The main example for me is Dune. I had never read the books or seen the previous movie so when I went into the 2021 version it completely ruined the immersion and world building the film was trying to create when every possible cast member was a super well known A list actor. I didn’t see any of them for the characters they were playing but only for the actor playing them.
Counterpoint – Daniel Day Lewis and Gary Oldman are incredibly well known and talented actors that completely disappear into roles so you don’t see them, but instead see their characters.
I think it’s more about the actors themselves. Like, I know Jim Carey gets criticised for playing the same character in every movie, and maybe that helps, but when I’m watching Ace Ventura I’m not thinking about his acting in You, Me and Dupree. Another one, that I don’t see mentioned a lot is Collin Ferrell. From S.W.A.T. to Fright Night, the Gentleman, In Brogues, he plays a good range of characters that don’t conflict with me.
On the other hand, ironically Gary Oldman sticks out to me in whatever he’s in. It’s weird because for a lot of his career he was known as the guy who disappears in his roles, and maybe that’s why he stands out to me is because of how many times I didn’t even know he was in a role so now I’m looking for him. But now that I do see him, for whatever reason I do compare his roles in my head and it makes it hard to take him seriously as an actor.
I imagine Jumanji (Welcome To The Jungle) would’ve worked as a great standalone movie if they didn’t higher every famous actor they could think of, didn’t use an IP that has nothing to do with the movie, and didn’t have an unnecessary sequel.
Like come on, We got Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, one of the Jonas Brothers, and Karen something… something, and then Danny Devito in the sequel.
It’s better if it’s animated though, since you don’t actually see the actors.
It depends on the actor. Some actors, like Gary Oldman are so good I dont see the actor–I see the character.
But ones who don’t change their appearance, it is distracting. Like Norman Reedus. The fact he has the exact same long scruffy hairstyle in every single movie, show or video game he’s in means when he appears I can’t see anything but Darryl from Walking Dead. It’s just “hey, it’s Daryll!” and any immersion is gone.
I agree. I’m a big superhero fan, and when known faces are behind the masks it instantly takes me out. I never knew who Christian Bale was until he played Batman, thats why he’s my favorite one. Just last night (its a tv show, but i digress) my wife wanted to start that netflix show The Four Seasons, and the main cast being Steve Carell, Tina Faye and Will Forte immediately took me out of the world building they were attempting. I couldn’t focus on the story at hand.
Its a nice thought, but if you’re being honest, you know you’re wrong.
Do you realise how many films are made every year. Not just ones released in cinema but all the made for tv movies and straight to dvd movies as well?
Can you honestly sit there and say that Osombie, a film about Osama Bin Laden returning as a zombie, is a “better” film than say the Green Mile, Goodfellers, or the shawshank redemption.
Now dont get me wrong, you certainly get some great low budget films, but they dont really support your point as they tend to be the exception, not the rule.
I think what you really mean is that a good film with unknown actors is better than a good film with known actors, and I doubt that would be seen as an unpopular opinion.
Indeed.
Jimmy Stewart ruined It’s a Wonderful Life. Brando destroyed both On The Waterfront and The Godfather. And Meryl Steep in Sophia’s Choice was truly a crime.
