Mustard tastes better and is more versatile than ketchup

r/

Mustard is the superior sauce compared to ketchup in every way.
Ketchup is too sweet, and has few uses outside of hotdogs, hamburgers and fries. Mustard on the other hand is used in bbq rubs, sauces, salads etc. It also basically has no calories or sugar, which ketchup has. By itself, I argue that mustard also tastes better than ketchup.

Take my upvote because no. You are wrong.

I agree with everything you said. I hate ketchup it always tastes like I’m eating tomato flavored sugar paste, way too sweet.

    Ranch is better than both

Mustard tastes like diarrhea with a fuck ton of yellow dye

  7. Significant_Answer_9 Avatar

This is definitely an opinion and by sales data it is unpopular/wrong.

Ketchup is tasty sweet, especially some of the more homemade versions. It has many uses, and forms the base of many condiments. It can also be used in bbq or to add depth of flavour to tomato based sauces. You love eating calories, admit it, 2000+ a day id wager!

    and has no sugar

Most everyone beyond the age of 7 doesn’t like ketchup. This is not unpopular.

Edit after reading comments, apparently adults, or people old enough to work Reddit like ketchup. Pathetic.

    I’m with you OP.

It’s not about the calories from the sugar in ketchup. It’s about it tasting like shit candy and children love it for this, along with adults with no palette.

Mustard and ketchup have different use cases. I’m never in a situation where I am choosing between one of the other, so setting up an arbitrary hierarchy makes no sense.

Ketchup tastes better in fries. Ketchup is an essent ingredient in Russian dressing, cocktail sauce and some styles of BBQ sauce. Mustard works in none of these situations. There are also many different styles of mustard and really only one style of ketchup, just better and worse versions.

Mustard is real food. Ketchup is just tomato flavored corn syrup. It tastes good, but it’s not really food it’s just red sugar goop.

  13. ReturningAlien Avatar

Mustard overpowers every other taste and ketchup is used for more than those you mentioned. Here’s an upvote.

  14. IceBlueLugia Avatar

Mustard has always been better, yeah

  15. Beruthiel999 Avatar

I’m sorry I cannot upvote this because you’re 100% correct.

  16. EmptyPin8621 Avatar

Not unpopular its just that burgers fries and hotdogs are staple bar/restaurant foods so ketchup is always going to be ready at hand so you see it more often. Very few people prefer ketchup to (their favorite version because there’s like 30) mustard.

Ketchup and franks red hot can be put on anything if you actually like it. It doesn’t sound like you like it much though. It goes on chicken, burgers, basically any fast food. You can mix it with mayo for a banger sauce too

I cannot stand mustard of any kind, in any form, ever…except in potato salad. And even then, only the teensiest bit.

Ketchup I can, but rarely do. There are many other better options. Aioli being one of my favorites.

I really do believe mustard is the best condiment. Ketchup is at best catsup.

Mustard is versatile…we can make it mild, yellow, horseradish, harsh as fuck. Theres no reason to say you hate mustard.

I can accept ketchup hate though.

I don’t use any sauce. If your food needs it to taste well it isn’t properly made or its is junkfood, ergo unflavoured junk. Not to mention hidden calories that add up so fast that it can only be overlooked when bulking for weight gain.

However, you do win the argument I think. Because mustard can be used in small amounts for flavouring and cooking. It is more than just a lousy sauce. Where ketchup is just a very poor version of a tomato paste or pasata that wouldn’t taste hardly as good when cooking with it.

Fun fact if you have muscle or leg cramps about a fast food packet of Mustard will help no idea why but it does. A buddy of mine that ran track use to do it

  24. Fishyfishhh9 Avatar

If you’re only eating normal old heniz/hunts/etc (I do still love theses, I love ketchup in general) ehh, sure. But there’s a lot of other brands that are way less sweet, or dont taste like your usual run of the mill brands.

78 brand ketchup is fantastic, and a lot closer to barbecue sauce, highly recommend if you can find it. Primal kitchen ketchup sweetened with honey is another favorite of mine, not too sweet and just sweet enough

And there’s another I miss that the store i work at no longer carries, can’t remember the name, but it was a spicy ketchup that was very thin and tasted moreso like an ever so slightly sweet hotsauce. Man that shit was GOOD with chicken.

Ketchup can be way more versatile than people give it credit for because all anyone ever buys ketchup wise is the big household name brands, and they never really buy outside of that

  25. TabmeisterGeneral Avatar

Theres like a million different varieties of mustard at every grocery store though.

Ketchup is very versatile as it can be used in marinades and as a base for BBQ sauce.

  26. TurboFool Avatar

Yes, mustard is the best condiment.

  27. Phokyou2 Avatar

Ketchup can also be used in everything you mentioned. It compliments salty foods way better than mustard. Sweet is way more appealing to a broader audience than the tangy, bitter bite of mustard.

  28. dynamic_caste Avatar

I can’t upvote because I am team r/ketchuphate. Proper mustard (not yellow) is great.

  29. jazzgrackle Avatar

Ketchup is limited to French fries, and even then mayo is preferred.
