I have been married to my husband for 7 years after dating for 3. He has been fantastic and amazing to me to thisbvery day and we have an 8 year old son and a 6 year old daughter. They have also been joys of my life.
My husband is a police officer and has seen a lot of crime in his job but the one from a few days ago broke him. He got a call from a Walmart about 2 kids left abandoned by their mother. He went to help stay with the kids until their mother arrived. I wasn’t there when it happened but he told me that the mother wasnt cooperative at all and then in an action that broke him, the mother drove off when he attempted to get her out of the vehicle (as she wasn’t cooperating. They caught her and the kids are now staying with a relative but this whole thing broke him.
He sobs in front of our kids and tells them he loves them. He’s always been a fantastic father but now hes so depressed from this incident that he wont take his sight off of our kids unless I reassured him I would be watching our kids.
How do I make him feel better?

Police work is tough work. They’re going to see and deal with some shit.
I don’t think there is much you can do besides hugging him and giving love.
Typically, departments have resources to help combat the ptds offices may face. May give a gentle nudge in that direction if you feel what you’re doing is not working.
But at solid hug, being present, caring for him, quality family time… All the man needs to get through it.
THAT broke him? I mean that isn’t like he witnessed kids dying or something. Maybe this triggered something from his childhood.
Maybe try going on a vacation or doing something he likes together. This might make him feel better
He needs to go to therapy.
