My BF stole my Retirement Fund

r/

My boyfriend used my computer to log in to my retirement fund. He changed the address, email, phone number to his. He then waited the 7 day waiting period, somehow logged in on his computer, and cashed out my entire fund. Had a check sent to his address, I believe it was made out to cash or his bank. Then he deposited it into his bank.

He is making a lot of excuses why he can’t just send it back to me which tells me it’s gone/spent.

I have filed a police report with my local police (not where he lives) and a report for identity fraud with the FBI. I haven’t heard anything yet. What else can I do?

Location: Michigan/Ohio

I assume this person is no longer your boyfriend, given he’s defrauding you and stealing from you?

You need to file a police report where HE lives. Include the copy of your report and any updates. I would also immediately contact your retirement plan administrator, if you haven’t already. Explain what happened, and request all the records (copies of the check issues for your documentation. They are not likely going to reimburse you, but ask what your options and next steps are to re-secure your account. I would also contact the bank to report this as fraud, even if he probably already spent the funds. Last, freeze and lock down your credit and any other accounts you have. You cannot let someone access your computer and accounts like this.

Ultimately, you might not be able to recover this. You can try to sue him, in small claims or elsewhere, depending on how much money he stole.

Not a lawyer. You need to reach out to your employer as well as a lawyer. If what you have said is true you should have a slam dunk case
