Location: Alabama. I am currently working at a summer camp as a counselor and my boss asked for photos of the labels on all the prescriptions that I take. She said she needed it for insurance purposes but to me that feels like a privacy issue, especially since it is a small camp with only around 10 employees. I told her that I am not comfortable sharing that with her and she said that she can fire me if I don’t comply. I did some googling and it seemed like she can’t do this but I thought I would ask here just in case.

It’s legal for them to ask.
It’s legal for you to say no.
But it’s also legal for them to not employ you if you say no.

If the summer camp has minor guests, in certain states I think they can do this.
Ask if a note from your Dr would suffice, saying you’re physically and mentally equipped for the job? Just an idea…
Is this an overnight camp? In some cases, camps can be seen as a care provider bound by Hipaa but legally able to require limited medical history and medications from campers and staff.
This can not be used in hiring or firing decisions.
