It’s genuinely so upsetting because that tortoise meant everything to my brother… but then it started showing signs of sickness (not eating and being lethargic) and our parents were like “well nothing we can do.”
I swear this could have been prevented… if only they sought help.

I’m so sorry to hear that. As a bearded dragon owner, I often see this same scenario with parents buying kids reptiles or other exotic animals, and it makes me feel sick.
People tend to not view exotic animals as being sentient like they do dogs and cats, and it’s very upsetting. They’re smart animals, and feel pain and have emotions. I wish more people would realize this.
I know how terrible it feels to lose a pet, and I hate that you guys were absolutely powerless to do anything besides watch the animal you love pass… absolutely heartbreaking.
I hope your parents think long and hard about why they didnt take it to the vet. I get money can be an issue, but there are many exotic vets who take payment plans. It sounds like they didnt even try to find any avenue to get the poor little dude help either 🙁
Awe, I’m so sorry. That’s terrible.
Yeah, I know that „oh, he was old..“-phrase for kids and always found it disgusting, especially being used in context of tortoises.
Tortoises should not be kept as pets
