I have a friend that lives in the state of Louisiana in the U.S. and she’s been victim of domestic violence for a while now, we are often doing video calls on Discord and I have witnessed now at least two times snippets of her father being violent to her, unfortunately I wasn’t able to get the events recorded but on the latest occasion she ended up held to the ground, repeatedly beaten with a baseball bat by her 15 year old brother while her father kept stepping and pressing on her head, he had thrown plates at her prior to that and the floor was covered in glass, so her head was being pressed against said glass, he was also spilling alcohol on her eyes and face. When I managed to get in call with her again she was visibly shocked, distraught and bleeding from the back of her head and other parts of her body, her eyes and face slightly swollen, and she was crying her eyes out. Her parents had turned off wifi and her phone line prior to that so I didn’t hear from her for about an hour or so, before that I was in call with her and I could hear him shouting at her while hurling objects in her direction
I urge her to call the cops but it’s not the first time that this kind of incident happens, I was also in call with her the last time her father attempting to hurt her by swinging a baseball bat at her general direction, she called the cops, they arrived at their house, dismissed her line of events and didn’t do anything… So this time she didn’t to call them again, she also told that she was scared of calling the cops.
Now I’m from Brazil, I tried looking up the closest police department to her house and calling their non-emergency phone number to no avail, I wasn’t able to make the call (probably because I’m in another country), I even straight up tried dialing 911 but of course, that redirect me to local Brazilian police, which was irrelevant in this scenario. So I wrote an email to the mentioned Louisiana police department through a form in their website… I don’t know if that will lead to anything. But I am very concerned about my friends safety and I believe she’s in danger, and I also believe that her father should be in jail
I hate the feeling of not being able to do anything, I don’t know what can I do in this situation to help her, I don’t know how I can properly contact the relevant law enforcement agencies. I asked her the phone numbers of people who work with her, people who are close to her, but I also do not know how to contact them since they don’t seem to have WhatsApp, what can I do to help my friend in this situation?
