She loves shopping and ordering food all the time
I dont mind once in a while but shes doing it every week and her credit card bill is crazy
She laughs about it and says money is meant to be spent but im scared for our future
I try to save and plan for things but she acts like its boring
I dont want to control her but if we live together later this will be a big problem
How do I explain that being responsible with money matters without sounding like her dad
TLDR
Girlfriend (F23) overspends and I (M24) worried about future together 1 year

This will be a huge problem!!
You explain it to her exactly as you typed it here without sugar coating it, you cant control someone and their spending behavior if they are paying for it, if she is in debt you let her deal with it unless you can cover her bills. Honesty is the best policy
Doesn’t sound like a good match.
Yeah, money is important and it’s ok to find it important. At 23, it’s normal not to be thinking about the long term impact of that spending (for your sake, it’s good you do) at the same time you know that spending has long term ramifications. I’d recommend discussing your concerns and see what she says but if she isn’t in the place to consider/change seriously, it’s ok to move on or reconsider things (also ok to lean into letting it unfold for now and see how things go…). I’d really recommend considering financial habits when picking a partner. Money impacts soooooo many things and can seriously hold you back.
