Deceased Father & G.Grandmother’s Location: Tennessee
Hello, I have been notified that my deceased biological father was bequeathed the remainder of my Great Grandmother’s last will & testiement. The total sum is $4,000. My brother and I are the next of kin but from what we could research and what I was able to clarify with the attorney that is overseeing her affairs; we are told we will need to open a small estate affidavit in his name for the money to be paid to.
The issue is that we don’t live in the same state my biological father had lived and subsequently, passed in and the small estate affidavit needs to be completed in the state he passed in. I’m not sure how to even begin that process in another state and it seems that the price for the paperwork would cost us significantly that I’m not even sure it is worth the hassle. Am I correct in thinking that or is there potentially a way to settle this in an efficient and low-cost way while being in a different state? If there isn’t, should I follow up with the attorney and tell them to give it to the remaining relative? Any advice is appreciated and thank you for taking the time to read this.

Is Arizona the state where you’d have to do the small estate affidavit?
