My (m 29) gf (f 30) have been impulsive

r/

I need your perspective on this. My gf acts on an impulse before accessing the situation, and then continues to act on an impulse. Like, today, we had dinner with my cousin and his parents. His parents cannot drive well at night, so he will be driving them. My gf was like, let’s go find something to do after dinner! I was like, dude gotta drive his parents home! Then she’s like, oh! I can call uber for them. I was like…. Girl… chill… his parents insisted that they take uber and we go out to have fun, but I was worried about them since they both have medical conditions and my cousin would do better helping them.

Some other times, she would buy things right away for someone no matter how much it cost. My sister tried this $450 sunglasses and told us she liked it. My gf bought it for her right away… for the record, she’s not rich.

Bottom line, if this keeps going, this will become a bigger problem. How can I talk about this to her without hurting her feelings?

It sounds like her heart is in the right place, but her impulse control needs a reality check. A gentle convo about long-term consequences might help more than you think.

The sunglasses thing screams generosity, not recklessness, but generosity without limits can become a liability. Set some healthy spending boundaries now, not later.

Generosity without boundaries is not kindness, it’s unsustainable. You are protecting both your relationship and her future.

Sounds like me & I have female adhd. I wasn’t diagnosed til I was 29. Impulse control is a huge issue.

First of all as a full grown woman I definitely wouldn’t want to be addressed as “girl” in a loving relationship.

Talk to your girlfriend about your concerns. Tell her you’ve noticed her acting more impulsively and if there is a reason for it. Do it in a respectful way. Communicating with her about what you feel is the only way to address any issues you’re having with her behavior

I agree with another commenter sounds like adhd. I have adhd and the things you’re describing are entirely things I have done and would do
