We were going out in the city, and we needed to get home with the scooter. A homeless guy walks up and says you need to take me home, he got on the scooter and held a knife to my nephews throat. Eventually he returns but he is broken and traumatized, he tries to be big amongst our other friend. I sent them away and they understand, but what do I do to calm him down?

Get him to talk to the police about it, in my experience they are actually really good at helping victims without having to go to therapy…
But also Therapy might be a good idea as well!

Realise that this was a life-threatening event and treat it like that rather than just something he needs to calm down about.
Playing Tetris within 24 hours of a traumatic event can change the way one processes and stores memories and makes events feel less traumatic in the long run. So if it’s a possibility you should both play Tetris. I know this sounds facetious but it’s an actual study they’ve done.
study about Tetris and traumatic events
That’s so fucked up. Someone else commented about Tertris below and that is really good advice. Beyond that, getting them someone to talk to, that can guide them through this will be the best chance of helping your nephew recover mentally
