I’m turning 18 in just a few months and I want to just look after my body the best way possible. I have spent many months of the past few years just sick in bed, with the world’s worst immune system. I get cold after flu after stomach bug and I just want some more wellness. Currently I live with my parents. They are the typical conservative people and are strongly opposed to vaccination. I have been raised with these values and never had a chance to form my own. I’m terrified of needles and I just really want some help knowing how to go about being best educated and I don’t want to endanger myself and the community just because I’m blindly following beliefs. My family believes that I will be damaging my body and say they will no longer let me live around them as I will be “shedding”. Is that even a real thing???? Are vaccines really the source of all evil ???
I really would love some advice on what to do as well as any form of actual research that states facts about vaccination because yes I’m scared, and yes I’m probably misinformed but I don’t want to be anymore.

There is no such thing as “shedding”.
Vaccines are not the source of all evil. There is no evidence that vaccines are harmful at all, and there is an ENORMOUS amount of evidence that they protect you from many diseases.
> as well as any form of actual research
You can easily google scientific studies on the safety and effectiveness of vaccines. Conversely, there are virtually no scientific studies that show vaccines to be harmful in the way that anti-vaxxers claim.
Blind loyalty to fear will cost you your health because vaccines aren’t evil ignorance is. Your body’s been begging for help so stop letting superstition stand between you and survival.
You can always make an appointment with your doctor. A medical professional will tell you the truth about what vaccinations you should get.
Walk into the doctor, and get what you need. You’re an adult.
get vaccinated any doctor will tell you to do so
This study of 1M children literally just came out,
https://www.statnews.com/2025/07/14/aluminum-in-vaccines-large-danish-study-finds-no-link-to-autism-asthma-allergies/
No links between vaccidnation and 50 diseases such as astma, adhd and autism.
I get covid and flu vaccinations every year. Have had covid 4 times now, it sucks. Not keen on a repeat. The vaccine makes it not so bad or if you are lucky you don’t get sick at all.
Im 34 and when the chicken pox vaccine came out in the early 90s my parents received a lot of criticism for giving me a “new untested vaccine”
Anyways never having chicken pox or shingles is great.
I dont always get the flu vaccine really bc I get lazy. Got influenza A this year and was hospitalized. I will never skip a flu vaccine again.
Talk to a doctor you trust to get facts tailored to you needle fears are normal, but they fade with support. Your health’s worth it!
You are an adult go to the doctor and get vaccinated
Make sure you are on the will
I got one without them knowing. For some reason it didn’t click until maybe 1-2 years after my 18th birthday that I was in fact an adult and my body was my business. I felt like I owed them something it’s hard to explain.
I just told my job I needed to take a couple of hours off and was in and out.
I was very worried I would get some random side effect from the vaccine (the type my parents spent 18 years telling me about), so it was overall a super tough situation. What helped me was being somewhat open with the nurse, their encouragement helped me and I felt I was doing something good for myself and for others.
In general OP you should always act based on your own decisions when it comes to your body, not anyone else.
I’m guessing your parents are immunologists? With years of experience? No? I’ve no idea when people with no knowledge or experience of a real complex subject became equated with or elevated above actual experts with published peer reviewed research and years of education and experience.
When you turn 18 you will be an adult and your relationship with your doctor is yours and none of anyone else’s business. You can ask your parents to take you to the doctor for a physical. Then ask him everything you want to know about vaccines. No one will know except you and your doctor. If one of your parents wants to go with you to get examined. Tell them no you’re an adult now and want to ask him questions about your body. They’ll think it’s sex. Conservatives sexualize everything.
Believe me, vaccinations can suck, the aftermath can feel horrible and feel sick but that’s the point. It’s a preventative measure to stop you from actually getting the sickness. I’d highly recommend getting vaccinated especially if you have any immune problems
OP might also want to read about what is happening in the world. This is from Alberta, Canada where there is a large number of antivaxers. Now, measles is making a strong comeback because people are not getting vaccinated. https://globalnews.ca/news/11287924/alberta-measles-july-14-2025/
If you are just looking for information, try looking at Australia or Canada’s government websites. Our government isn’t pushing vaccines to make money- they have to pay for them lol. (Idk that’s just what Americans have told me they think their gov does)-
