My parents worship grades.

r/

I seriously can’t take it anymore. My parents are not normal.
I’m senior , and today I messed up on one test.
They’ve been yelling at me all day like I ruined their lives.
It’s like they care more about grades than they care about me.
I’m literally starting to feel disgusted by them.

They go chill in their room like nothing’s wrong, then come out just to throw more pressure and remind me of my grades like it’s the only thing that matters.
I swear I hate everything right now.
My head is pounding and I physically can’t handle another word from them.
I’m so done.

May be they are taking out someone else’s anger at you or may be they think more they pressurize and torture you then higher will be your grades

Maybe they’re regretting things that they couldn’t have done. For example, maybe they wish they would have done better in school. After all it does come from a place of love but I understand the feeling of that pressure. I just graduated college and the entire time I have based my life around my grades and felt like a failure for not always obtaining great grades and compared myself to my peers. Guess what I graduated, made the deans list my last semester and I’m obtaining my masters degree. At the end of the day, it’s your life, you need to be able to enjoy it. I suggest you talk to your parents if you haven’t already and tell them that you care about your grades and your success but if they aren’t supportive of you even if you “fail” (get the highest mark) that will push you away and cause resentment in your relationship, it will crumble your self esteem and cause you to feel like a failure in life if you don’t meet up to their (unrealistic) expectations. If you don’t learn to fail in any aspect of life, you won’t learn how to recover and gain resilience. I’m not saying that you should go off to college (I’m assuming you’re a senior in high school), and adapt the “C’s get degrees” motto in all your classes. I’m saying that they won’t be there to yell at you about your grades all the time in college. It’s a very difficult transition. Sorry for my long response but I hope I can help. Best of luck!

Putting the extra effort to get always 100%/ S+ is not worth it. Some teachers make the extra 10/5% a HUGE waste of time.

I find it better to get good notes and use the remaining time to pursue skills that will actually help you in the future, be it engineering, writing, art, etc.

And never neglect the social aspect of school only to get that extra 10/5%. Making connections is WAY more important.
