I love winding down by dancing to some music late at night — it helps me relax after a long day. But lately, my roommates have been knocking on my door, asking me to keep it down because the noise is keeping them awake. I’ve tried turning the volume way down, wearing slippers to soften my steps, even moving to different rooms, but it still seems to bother them. It’s summer, and I don’t want to miss out on my me-time or stress-relief, but I also don’t want to ruin my relationship with my roommates. Has anyone dealt with this? Any tips on how to keep the peace while still enjoying my late-night groove sessions?
My roommates say my late-night dancing is “too loud” and it’s messing with their sleep.

What’s late at night?
Go for a run. Dance outside.
Do you have a basement with a cement floor? Can you go dance outside? If you continue to interrupt your roommates sleep no good will come if it. Buy them a white noise generator and dive ear plugs and look for other places or earlier times to dance it out.
If you live in a multistory house, and the bedrooms are upstairs, maybe do your dancing downstairs in the living room.
Stop being selfish unthinkable the people who might enjoy, but they obviously don’t want to listen to that at that time of night
Wear earbuds or headphones. Use a room where they won’t hear you as much.
This sounds selfish and like you need to find a new routine. I’d be mad too if people were listening to music and fucking dancing in a shared home unless we were throwing a party.
After 10 PM everyone’s stuff should be on minimum volume and if possible, on headphones. No thumping around cleaning or shit like that either. (This is assuming everyone has a normal work/school schedule, it can vary if things are different when you move in.)
