Ok, so my estranged wife (we’ve been separated for almost 10 years, but never filed for divorce…stupid move, I know) is incarcerated and likely to not get out. I picked up her car, at her request, from the courthouse and have it. It’s registered and insured in her name, but there’s a lien on it from where she was financing it. I found out recently that she hasn’t made payments in almost a year, but the car has never been repossessed.
Do I have any options? Can I legally do anything with this car or should I contact the finance company and have them come get it?
Thanks,

Do you want to pay off the loan and then keep the car? If so, then you need a power of attorney. If not, then I would just let the financing company pick it up.
Only if you want to keep it. Otherwise call the loan company and ask them to pick it up.
You can pay it off, and she can sign the car over to you. Outside that, there’s no here’s a car mine.
> should I contact the finance company
It’s possible they do, but they are not required to repo the car.
‘is incarcerated and likely to not get out.’ Id be afraid of her forcefully getting out then proceeding to attempt to recover her vehicle. What are you going to do if you wake up at 2am with stabby in your room asking you where her mf-en car is?
Edit: Not a lawyer, not legal advice etc
You can become her POA for this specific purpose, provide that document to her lender, and then inquire on next steps.
