Need some advice. My roommate has decided he is going to move out before our lease end. He has no intention of letting the leasing office know. I plan on suing him since I cannot afford the rent on my own and the lease breaking fee would end up on my credit. Is this possible or will I just have to take the hit?

So you can not sue him for future debt. So you will need to figure out how to pay the rent until the lease ends and then sue him for his half of the rent afterwards.
You can also talk to the leasing office if they are able to allow you to find a subleter of his room to help you with rent until the lease ends and you move.

That’s the general solution to this issue if you don’t want to break the lease. But you’re going to have to wait until the duration of the lease is over in order to have realized all the damages he owes you.
You are going to have to pay the rent first before you can sue him for not paying his portion of the rent. If you don’t your credit will take the hit and you can end up with an eviction on your record.
Alternately you may be able to work with your soon to be ex roommate and the leasing office to find someone to sublease.
