I sold a 2016 Pokémon box via Facebook Marketplace 3 years ago January 2022 for $900. On September 4th, 2025, he contacted me for the first time claiming that the box is fake after comparing it to another box he has. At the time of sale, he inspected the item, agreed to purchase, and no written terms were established. I have proof of the transaction through Facebook Marketplace. He is now threatening to sue me and involve the police. What should I do in this situation?

I would reach out to r/AusLegal. For better advice, I am in the US. Our laws might apply differently here. I did a little research, and it looks like you are protected under the ACL, I would keep all messages and keep your responses to a minimum.

Like we say in the US, tell that guy to go pound sand, he waited 3 years to complain about this. In the US, it would be on the buyer to make sure he is understanding of what he is buying, if the seller acted responsibly and did nothing negelent, it is extremely difficult to prove other wise with out evidence. Good Luck OP!
