I live in a quiet neighborhood with my partner. We keep to ourselves, help out when we can, and generally avoid drama. But our next-door neighbor is a different story.
A few months ago, he bought a massive boat. Cool, right? Not really—because he decided to start parking it halfway across our driveway, blocking one of our cars in almost every day. We asked him politely to move it. He laughed it off.
We left notes. Talked to him again. Nothing. He said it was “temporary” every time, but “temporary” turned into two months. So I started reading the HOA bylaws.
Turns out boats over a certain length aren’t even allowed to be parked in front of properties unless in a closed garage—which his definitely wasn’t. I gathered photo evidence from multiple days, including timestamps, and submitted a report to the HOA.
Three weeks later, a tow company came. Took the whole thing. He tried to argue with them, but it was already gone. The HOA fined him $2,500 and said he couldn’t bring it back without approval.
Now he has to pay storage fees on top of that, and our driveway is wide open again. Peace restored.
Moral: Don’t mess with people who read the rulebook.

This is fantastic. Glad you were able to get some justice!
Love it! It’s one of those feel-good HOA stories (it was really hard to say that). But glad they were on the good side for once.
This is the first ever positive thing I have read about living in an HOA regulated area.
Great job! I kinda fear he’ll retaliate as he might have an idea you were behind the HOA to seize it tho. But I know you’re ready just in case!
