Location: California. Leading back to an incident some months ago, I was driving through my alley which is shared with an apartment complex. The alley is 2 cars wide and a car was blocking both directions. I wait ~45 seconds for someone to come so I give a light tap of the horn. Another minute and I honk again. The guy comes out, cussing me out etc. I round the corner towards my house and he gets out of his car and lunges towards my driver side. We get into verbal altercation, he leaves without the car, I go to take a picture of the plate and VIN to call non-emergency and he comes back and points a handgun towards me, I leave and call 911. The police have not outreached to me much since but I do have a police contact.
Leading to the 2nd incident about a month later, they told me to call the police when I see him (he hangs in the alley frequently at a garage I can see from my home), I called the police, he came aggravated while I was driving through yelling about why I called the police. (He was gone at the time but a neighboring garage was there and informed him) I woke up the next morning to gang tags, X’s, etc. all over the garage and back door.
The second incident was when I was driving down the alley at night and I left the car running outside of the garage and he came out and started recording (legal I know), and I did not go in immediately. He left shortly after, flipped me off, threw some gang signs up, and the next morning the garage was kicked in with damage that needed to be repaired.
Both of these attacks were directly the morning after the incident.
Just a day ago, he had followed me in a car registered to his girlfriend halfway across town, and when I tried to snap a photo of the license plate (in no threatening manor) because I figured I was being followed, he became enraged and pulled up next to me to cuss me out and take a turn at the light instead of following me straight through the intersection. He had no indication that I knew he was following me until I turned the car about 5 degrees to try to snap the plate to check.
There are no cameras along with neighbors on the home side remotely close and have not captured any of the 3 major incidents. I do have a photo of him behind me as well as pulled past me in the right lane w/ license plate, but I figure even that is not good enough evidence.
We have since just gotten cameras. I don’t know where to turn because he often hangs in the alley and likes to intimidate, walk past my garage while I’m parking, throwing up gang signs. I am in no way gang affiliated and am very young in age. This is in a nice area of LA county as well. I ignore as best as I can but I cannot ignore being followed for several miles away from my house, (a route I have never seen him on at all and passing major freeways.)
The police haven’t been much help because of no video evidence I suppose, as well as the car registering back to a woman (I have confirmed his girlfriend who has 3 children). They live in one of 4 unit complex’s. I am not keen on calling the police again, but the incidents have continued for over 6 months.
Is it even worth reporting this at a police station? Is it worth having an officer come out to try to contact him in the alley since he is there 80% of the day? Would I have any plausible case for a civil harassment order?
I would gladly take any words of advice.
