Old info, but prime example….my wife was a cheerleader for 6 years in middle and high school and played basketball in middle school and jv high school. So four years.
JNMIL never went to see her daughter cheer a single time. Never went to one ofmher basketball Games.
And she wonders now when wife is 54 years old whymshe never visits 80 year old jnmil….

That’s sad. I may not have made every performance for our kids (4 kids! Conflicting schedules) but would have been sure one parent was there for most of them.
I have a friend who went through the same thing. She excelled at track and was a cheerleader for 6 years. Did her Mom ho to any games? No. Now her Mom asks mine why she doesn’t visit, or let her have the kids stay with her. Lady, you don’t get to traumatize another generation of kids after what you did to your own daughter.
My MIL never went to my husband’s games, too. I hate sports but I met him in college and never missed a game! I can’t imagine not BEING THERE for your child. It’s always bothered me since before I met her. 11 years with my husband, one son and one on the way. My DH just realized last month that he wasn’t okay with her missing games, but she made him tell her it was okay to miss because she didn’t want to go but didn’t want to feel bad about not going.
I can’t imagine not being there for anyone I care about. It’s unthinkable for my children.
