Nobody should play top 40 radio stations in businesses or public places.

r/

If a store has its own radio, great, there’s probably new and interesting music playing but I never once asked to hear top 40 radio and shouldn’t be forced to hear it.

There’s a reason I don’t listen to top 40 music so don’t subject it to me against my will.

“I don’t like, and therefore no one else likes it either”

    -OP probably

There is a reason that the Top 40 is the Top 40, it appeals to a wide swath of people.

restaurants have to pay a fee to be able to stream music from something like spotify or anything similar

    What is top 40 music?

And if a business was specifically created to cater to only you, they’d go bankrupt almost immediately because I highly doubt you’re wealthy enough to singlehandedly make a store profitable by shopping there 🤷‍♀️

What you don’t like hearing the same songs every hour? Weird

They’re appealing to the widest range of people, by definition that’s gonna be top 40 music.

You’re not being subjected to anything against your will. If you don’t like the music the business is playing, shop somewhere else. Or put in a pair of earplugs. Or maybe just grow up and learn to ignore it.

“Forced to hear it”. “Subject it to me against my will. Dude it’s music, relax.

Besides, you’re fine as long as the music is “new” to you? So really you just want store radios to cater to you specifically?

I will say this: maybe there should be some consideration for other forms of music. In my 20’s (early 2000s) I worked at a candy store and we were able to play whatever music we wanted so long as it didn’t have offensive lyrics (or had them censored.) Staff rotated music choices,. my manager who was also a DJ on the weekend played his DJ sets and randos use to come in for the music alone. Not sure how many people were turned off by the music but no one ever came in because we were playing top 40 stuff.

What about the other 99 customers that may enjoy it? I don’t listen to top 40 either, I naver have in 60 years, but still respect others do enjoy it. If a store played music that you or I enjoyed others will likely complain.

You will listen to the top 40 and like it!!

“Don’t subject it to me.” Nice Freudian slip there. You do sound insufferable, so I wouldn’t want to subject anything to you.

It’s crazy how entitled some people are about PUBLIC places

Public places do not need to cater to you alone
