Nothing wrong with actually enjoying your job

r/

I’ve noticed that it’s a common theme for work to be something to escape from; that will always be an obstacle in life or just a means to an end.

I’ve been blessed enough to have a career thats exciting, and fulfilling. Yet, whenever I tell people I have a lot of fun at my job, I often get the craziest reactions (without them even knowing the job). Its almost as if they couldn’t fathom the concept.

I’ll either always get a lecture about work-life balance, being a workaholic, I’ve even had a person tell me “that’s kinda sad” in response. I feel like this stems from an antiwork culture, or just people’s personal feelings. I’m not saying don’t have hobbies outside of work, but if you were blessed enough to land a job you look forward to everyday, thats not something that should be questioned or examined; imo you just found a cheat code to a major part of life.

I like my work and I know it’s rare bc it seems like a lot of my friends don’t, yet they make good $. For these people, I slightly feel sorry for them bc most ppl including me would tell them the STFU about their high paying miserable jobs

What is your job, if you don’t mind me asking?

Those people have crab mentality. “If I don’t enjoy my job, you can’t enjoy any jobs.”

I used to work as a butcher at a freezing works. The pay was great $80k-100k NZD a year and you only worked 8 months a year. But absolutely hated the job for a number of reason. It got to the point where I wanted to self delete than go back for one more day.

Luckily I left and now I work a job stacking shelves at a supermarket. I make a lot less money but my mental health is so much better.

You can only stand in the same spot doing the same repetitive jobs for 9 hours a day in 35° degree heat getting covered in blood, shit and piss.

I love meeting people who love to work. They often have real passion and knowledge about something.

I’m a commercial HVAC guy, I pretty much love my job….and I have to do some dumb nasty stuff sometimes. But sometimes it takes my body, mind, will, and teamwork to get the job done….isn’t that what we’re supposed to be happy using, our actual selves and the components that make up the self?

I’ve always loved working, I started at 8 or 9 years old with a 150+ house paper route twice a week that I bagged and delivered on foot myself. Worked with my convenience store area supervisor mom in my early years at various stores. Was a top student but have issues and made shit decisions, and honestly school wasn’t for me, but luckily work is always there to get your mindset right if you know how to utilize work.

Work can also be the escape from a horrible home life.

How is this an unpopular opinion? Enjoying your job is wonderful.

The problem here is you shouldn’t be a workaholic unless you are getting more money.

Go to work, enjoy yourself being passionate about what you do, then collect your money and go home.

    I love my job.

I also want to escape it at the end of the day.

Both things can be true at the same time.
