Location: Louisiana I just went through a 5 year divorce process which the best description I can provide is that the worst horror movie you have ever seen couldn’t do this justice. I will try to keep my question brief—Due to a completely unrelated issue (and was the best most ethical practicing lawyer I ever met) the ODC (Louisiana) took action and had his license suspended. This occurred 18 days before THE MAJOR court date in my case and I found out when my now ex spouse/attorney called me. When I asked them about the upcoming court date, they said that all my attorneys scheduled court cases had been canceled until further notice. The next day I got a call to come pick up my chart from a closed office. That is it. When an new neighbor attorney offered to take over my case for free I was suspicious but even more so when we met and he tried to talk my into dropping my entire case. I couldn’t find a lawyer willing to take my case unless they would be complicit. My ex is the wealthiest physician in the area and his attorney is a convicted felon who did two years for counterfeiting bank CD’s after stealing hundreds of thousands from client funds. Bottom line- I ended up finding out that the court date had not been canceled but he needed to wait till the bench rotation to get the judge who had been his “protege”(his words on court record not mine). I now live 5 hours away and several lawyers have said they have never seen so much misconduct in both amount and how blatant. But the statute to challenge the divorce settlement which I lost about a million and my share of 3 businesses including a local hospital ownership (partial) ended February.
However in April I read about a local attorney here who had his license suspended and it stated that the ODC was to appoint a trustee to oversee the client’s legal interests. So I went back and researched my attorney’s suspension and sure enough the Louisiana state Supreme Court order specifies that the ODC may appoint trustee to protect the client’s legal interests. With my court date 18 days away I cannot understand how my interests were not of importance. I never heard anything from anyone at the ODC and I was desperately searching for an attorney without any knowledge they should have appointed someone and no one even mentioned it.
Is there anyone to take this to? Is this common?? There are other issues I still have to report such as to the state medical board so this is all going to get reported somewhere. Any ideas??
Please no snark as you can see I have endured enough so if you are just going to troll save yourself the effort. Thank you!!
