Opinions on “MsFlow” products

r/

Hey guys, I might delete this later as to not have it on my history lol but I’m stressing myself out trying to pick out period underwear for the first time. I really want to get away from disposable products, plus the chemicals in them are unnecessary. I just have some questions.
I have a heavy flow, and always double up with a pad and tampon, both being heavy overnight types. Is there a brand/style of period underwear that’s specifically for a heavy flow? My biggest fear is a leak (obviously) but especially a lead on a chair. My days start at 3:30am and ends around 5pm, so on shark week I’m stressing for about 15hrs a day. I just want to be sure whatever I go with, I won’t have to worry about leakage. Also, when it comes to washing, do you just rinse them in the sink and throw them in the wash? I’m also curious if I’ll need to use a pad along with the underwear, which I feel may defeat the purpose. In which case I’m looking at getting reusable cloth pads. I was looking at boyshort styles as well for the underwear, but I hear those leak more sometimes.

I’m also considering swapping to a cup in place of tampons, but they freak me out so much. So idk if there are any other options on that front? I’ve never used a cup so I could be psyching myself out.

Anyway, sorry for the sensitive topic, I just need an adult lol
(I am an adult, but I need other adults opinions on this one) I appreciate any help 💜

On my heaviest day, if I use disposable products I have to change them every 2-3 hours or it will become a situation.

I use both Thinx and The Period Company heavy flow items and have had no issues. If I am truly going to be away from home for a long time I might use and take a couple tampons also. But I wouldn’t use a pad with them. If I use the heavy flow items I do not have to change them, but if I use a mild flow item then I would need to change it.

If it’s a heavy day I just throw mine in the wash on their own and do an extra rinse. On less heavy days I just wash everything with darks also with an extra rinse. I have not had any issues. The extra rinsing might not even be necessary.

One thing I didn’t know about before doing this, because of the acidic nature of everything, mine have bleached a bit over time.

I rinse out in the shower rather than the sink and hang dry on the inside of the shower so they don’t get stinky if it will be a bit before I can wash.

I just started using period underwear and it was a godsend. I only have a (mildly) heavy flow the first full day, but I’ve been able to wear the underwear for 12-14 hours with no leakage or smell.

Have you considered using a diva cup? I have a few friends with PCOS who have intensely heavy flows and they swear by them. I don’t personally like insert products, but I’ve heard amazing things.

THE FOLLOWING IS A REPLY FROM A PERSON THAT REALLY LOVES CUPS.

I loved using my diva cup! I did go with a soft cup at first, and I guess I should say I never actually used my diva cup… I had it in when I expected to get to period and just gave myself a years infection because I was pregnant. 🫠 After that I had no more pelvic shelf and the soft cups didn’t stay. The diva cup was now too small and I had to go with like a size 2 Lina cup or something. There’s a quiz you can take https://putacupinit.com that will point to the right cup. Wait I lied, I have a Saalt cup!

I always hated tampons. I found them irritating and I could never get it right- I always had too heavy a flow one minute the the next too light so I either bled through severely or dried myself up to the ointment if pain. I’ve had my cup for like 7 years? I boil it to clean it. Imagine… I saved over $2000 on stupid add sanitary supplies.

My next move is for sure period underwear though. I just haven’t felt the need because the cup worked out so well.

I have Knix and like them, but they aren’t well regarded in the r/periodunderwear community.

I’d also encourage you to visit there and search to read reviews.
