Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are much better on toasted bread.

r/

Ya know, I only tried a PB&J sandwich a few years ago. I didn’t grow up with it like most people. But when I tried it, I was pretty unimpressed.

Until recently I discovered the glory that is PB&J with toasted bread. I think the crunch adds so much, as well as bringing out the sweetness with the warm jelly.

It’s also much easier to cut (optional, but I think it adds to the experience)

I think this is unpopular because PB&J sandwiches are most famous on soft white bread, rarely represented toasted.

I totally agree. Not sure this is an unpopular opinion but if it is everyone else is wrong.

Try banana and peanut butter on toasted bread

This is the only way! Now I think I have to make one right now.

It’s good made like a grilled cheese. With ruffles in it. And an ice cold glass of milk

Try a grilled pb and j

I prefer the bread to be as soft as possible, but toasted ain’t bad I guess

I had my first PB&J when I was like 21? Also unimpressed. Toasting the bread really adds something to it, I agree.

You should try grilling it like a grilled cheese. SUPER good

I go back and forth, they’re both good options

I think both are great. 12 year old me would have preferred toasted, but I think I prefer untoasted as an adult. But both are solid

  15. Amazing_Divide1214 Avatar

I completely agree. All sandwich bread should be toasted if you ask me.

I would agree. On the surface I think this is just an opinion. I wouldn’t say it’s unpopular, but we’ll see.

I would agree but qualify that it depends on the level of toastiness. The bread must be crisp on the outside but still pillowy inside. A fully toasted bread makes it too crunchy and not all that pleasant with PB&J.

Am I the only person who eats pbj with no bread? I just smear it on a lettuce leaf and put a piece of celery in for crunch. I have been told I’m kind of nightmare about food.

  19. oroborus68 Avatar

Have you tried a grilled pbnj?

  20. derivativesteelo47 Avatar

i stand by the grilled pb&j

  21. Bigram03 Avatar

Just about any sandwich can be vastly improved by toasting the bread.

I like my PB&J on a flour tortilla personally.

(All sandwich bread should be toasted)

I’m a stickler on my pb&j. I want crappy white bread untoasted and grape JELLY. The only way I’ll eat them. It’s a comfort thing for me. 🤷‍♀️ I don’t eat them often.

There is almost no way to fuck up a pb&j as long as you have the fundamentals. Even bread can be subbed out for a tortilla or other gluten carb related product.

While soft white bread makes a mean pb&j, it isnt even the best bread you could be using, or really even in the top 5.

Edit – Peanut butter is a god tier condiment.

I love half toasted bread. Put two slices upon each other and toast. You get the toasted outside and the warm/soft side as well.

That totally sounds better. I’ll try that soon.

Along with most sandwiches. But the convenience of a sandwich isn’t always worth that extra step.

It’s a bit more work to toast the bread, but pb&j on English muffins is as good as it gets.

(NO sane person eats raw English muffins)
