People online don’t like to hear the truth about how the real world works

r/

I think we’ve come to a point in time where both online approval and disproval of things are hurting us, as a whole, and we’re not in a position to accept how life works. We already threw shame out of the window and it was replaced with arrogance. Now the truth is being thrown out, to be replaced with comfortability. We, as a whole, rather be told, “the lion is friendly”, than to be warned that the lion will hurt you.

    This is so vague.

Though I wish there was more context, I don’t know that anyone would disagree with this written as generally as it is. Or at least anyone with two brain cells to rub together.

  5. Tinman5278 Avatar

Meh. Most people online don’t know how the “real world” works to begin with. They don’t have any truth to spread.

  6. No_Salamander4095 Avatar

Or we all have to nod and smile at the lion with the shaved mane pretending to be a lioness.

I get the vibe that you imagine yourself as very wise and knowing, and everyone you talk to online as clowns honking their noses and giggling to themselves. Is it possible that they have real world experience as well? Is it possible there are things you don’t want to hear?

The real world is fucked up because our lives are dictated by a super majority of either rich people or violent people. Or both. Either directly or indirectly.

I don’t need to be told what is dangerous or not. It’s called critical thinking.

Not some dude on the internet or some bloated ass article.

The lion analogy is too real. Folks would rather pet it than admit it bites.

  10. Intelligent_Break_12 Avatar

I agree. Though I’d add most people IRL also don’t care about reality. Just bring up anything about nutrition/food from GMOs to “chemicals,” to “super foods.” The amount of woo around nutrition is only surpassed by the woo around medicine.

This applies to a lot of people on Reddit.

The Real World was canceled years ago. 600+ episodes was enough

I think it’s more that people don’t like the way the real world works and want to change it versus not liking to hear the truth about how the real world works.

For example, “I don’t like X, here are some things I think would solve it” is my approach versus “life is rigged and it’s everyone’s fault but my own” which is how a former friend would approach it.

It’s hard to tell whether this is an unpopular opinion or not, because it feels like a series of vaguely-phrased click-bait headlines for poorly-written Medium articles. Why don’t you circle back and tell us what’s actually upset you? Or maybe edit with some examples?

  15. Total_Literature_809 Avatar

    How the world works?

  16. Only_Watch4282 Avatar

Can’t lie I do come here to escape the real world, I don’t watch news tho cuz that’s the part that messes me up the most, but I like seeing the nice side of people so I still have some hope for this world

    Great opinion tho can’t lie

  17. Visible_Statement431 Avatar

this is so vague that it has no meaning at all. most people in the real world are online at some point so…

  18. kardiogramm Avatar

This shouldn’t be unpopular. So many things that used to be a sensible facts are now labelled a right wing opinion. It’s used so often that when it actually happens we would have cried wolf too many times.

  19. CrittyCrit Avatar

I’m sorry to downvote you, but know it’s because I agree with you wholeheartedly.

  20. crazyshdes62 Avatar

I think it is that online culture of approval seeking and fame hunting has stopped some people from thinking.

People used to know the lion was dangerous (at least a good majority did) but now they want the picture/video to post online.

Or they try to tell a joke that goes viral (for better or worse) and things snowball from there (for better or worse).

  21. slaying_mantis Avatar

Here’s a truth for you: comfortability isn’t a real word

  22. Penarol1916 Avatar

What makes you think people in real life do?

  23. Important-Stable-842 Avatar

I do think posts in advice subs reflect what people wish were true rather than what is actually true. But then the same can probably be said of IRL advice too.

It also attracts people with very niche radical views. If you regurgitate what’s said on Reddit, you will place yourself wayyy on the far left in the UK. Met a handful of people who were “Reddit left” and they are almost invariably American and very far left.

Also a lot of naive idealism replacing logic and realism in some quarters. Or maybe that’s what you mean. I’m not sure.

  25. ObscuredHeart Avatar

Pretty sure all OP is just saying is people don’t know how to live a humble life due to them refusing to take humility and wanting to be the main character in life. At least this is how I shortened it. Still agree though. Worth an upvote.

  26. Didntlikedefaultname Avatar

I agree with the title but not sure the body of the post really is what I was thinking of. A simple example where I see this a lot of people hating on landlords and refusing to accept that in our current society landlords are necessary and many of them are normal ass people just trying to build some wealth for themselves. A lot of people I have talked to online want to insist that there’s a way for everyone to get a house where they want it and for whatever they can pay if it wasn’t for all the greedy landlords and don’t want to listen to any rational of why that makes no sense
