People say to drink water before sleeping for better sleep, but I just end up peeing 3 times. Am I doing something wrong?

r/

I’ve heard that staying hydrated helps you sleep better and keeps your body hydrated, so I try to drink water before bed. But I end up peeing twice before I can fall asleep, and then once again in the middle of the night. Even when I lie down, I feel this constant urge to pee or pressure in my bladder that keeps me from relaxing properly. So instead of better sleep, I’m just more restless. What am I supposed to do?

    Just don’t overdrink before sleeping.

That is just a myth… drinking more water then you need won’t cause you to have a better sleep… nothing in science support it

I don’t think that’s accurate at all, maybe try like a sip or two. Not an entire glass. Of course you’re going to have to pee within the 6-8 hours you’re sleeping. That’s just life.

Yes, you are doing it wrong. You need to drink more water so you will pee yourself. That way you will feel comfortably warm and don’t have to go to toilet peeing.

I’ve never heard that and it’s not in the National Sleep Association’s list of recommendations.

It actually says NOT to eat/drink at least two or three hours before bed.

Get your hydration earlier in the day and don’t over do it. You should drink when you’re thirsty and don’t force yourself to have 8 glasses of anything. That’s a myth.

anecdotally: In my 20’s 30’s and 40’s i could sleep a full 8 hours without having to get up and pee. Now, once I turned 50….Like a switch was thrown on me. No less than twice a night, no matter what or when or how much I drank or not.

I purposefully stop drinking 2-3 hours before sleep in order to avoid not being able to sleep due to having to pee.

Do you stay hydrated during the daytime? If so you should need less water in the evening. If the only time you’re drinking water is just before bed then of course you’re going to pee in the night. Hydration is an all-day game.

Are you scared of the dark? Being hydrated is more important than getting up for a piss. Basically, empty your bladder sitting down right before you hit the sack. When you wake up needing to urinate, do s9o, have a bit of a walk around for 10 minutes, get on Reddit for another 15, then go back to bed. You’ll wake up refreshed.

The idea of drinking water just for the sake of drinking water is silly. Have a glass of water on the bedside table if you get thirsty. Your body will tell you when you need to drink.

Those “people” and you are misinformed. If you can, do not drink water and pee once before you go to sleep.

drink more throughout the day instead.

    Dont.

You are not supposed to drink before laying down.
