People that can’t handle life without blazing up all the time are kind of sad people.

r/

I keep hearing it from people that are high like all the time that who would want to do this life straight? Me. My family. My friends. For those of us that smoked weed at some point in our lives it wasn’t to escape life, it was literally to get high. Same reason we did shrooms, acid, and went to keggers. It wasn’t that we couldn’t handle life, it was that it was the weekend and we were having fun.

I went to BJs the other day and needed help from a clerk and the guy was emanating weed. And 1 second after we asked for help he forgot and wandered off. I asked on the BJs page here and people accused me of being a boomer and clutching my pearls. I mean we were customers and needed help and because this guy couldn’t handle working at BJs without being high we didn’t get it. For the record, I’m Gen X. We are not the soft ones. We can handle everything, but when it comes to expecting employees to to be high and to help when asked, it’s annoying when it doesn’t work out.

But I keep having this conversation with people in Gen Z and Millennials and the consensus seems to be life is TOO HARD to not be high all the time. I think that’s sad. Aside from the smell, which we have to deal with daily because our upstairs neighbors smoke every day, driving high is not a good idea, and what if you needed surgery, would you be cool with your surgeon lighting up first? Life might be too hard for them, too.

As someone who gets high all the time and is Gen z we have nothing else to do. Just a new generation you guys were alcoholics and we’re stoners.

It is sad. A whole group of unmotivated, dependent, and weak individuals.

why would you expect people working jobs that can’t even support a basic living to care about showing up to work sober lol

  6. Used_Cockroach_6735 Avatar

I feel like I’m contradicting myself agreeing, as a minimal cannabis user, but honestly it’s so deteriorating. I have lost close friends who have either forgotten plans or reorganized their life around weed. Very sad. I work in a company adjacent to cannabis and we see this a lot with our customers of these processing plants. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

  7. Miserable_Ground_264 Avatar

I don’t think this is unpopular.

I don’t care what you are checking out with, it is sad that checking out is seemingly required and digging in is apparently impossible.

Then the line of “I can quit anytime”… sureeee..

  9. Zealousideal-Log90 Avatar

You don’t think there are extremely successful surgeons out there in the world that smoke weed?

  10. Timmeh_2284 Avatar

What’s even sadder is this unpopular opinion being posted near daily.

I’ll give you credit for throwing in a generational spin where people your age “get it” more than others, but otherwise this is lazy unoriginal slop.

  11. LA2IA Avatar

What if I “blaze up” all the time not because life is too hard, but because life is just more enjoyable when I’m high. For example, I don’t run around with the sort of anger you seem to live life with based on this post. I don’t know what BJs is but was it really that important? This BJs moment has you so upset that you’ve held on to this anger long enough to take it home with you and post about it, and then you’ll continue to relive this moment and assuredly this anger. Maybe you should just smoke some weed and forget about it? 🤷🏾

  12. True_Inside_9539 Avatar

I’ve been on a THC break for about 8 days now after blazing up every two hours. Can and will confirm, I am quiet depressed without it.

To be fair I struggle with suicidal tendencies, PTSD, TBI, recovery from other substances, anorexia, and depression and borderline personality disorder; all diagnosed by professionals. Cannabis is my saving grace. I hate THC breaks because my fiancé gets to sit there and watch me struggle with my psychosis and all it entails. He’s been on edge with me since the day I took a break, but I think I’m doing okay. I’ve only broke down 6 times since the first day and almost cut my hair once. Fingers crossed 🤞🏽 I can make it until Monday.

I vape every day and still manage to work a corporate job really well, just got promoted. Depends on the person and whether they are willing to wait until after work to toke up.

  23. Complete_Chain_4634 Avatar

Pretty sure surgeons don’t deal with doing hard labor and not having enough money to make a living. Either way this is one of the most popular opinions on earth and thus doesn’t belong here.

  24. Independent_Zebra261 Avatar

You can’t handle life without bitching about how other people spend their time.

  25. marinelife_explorer Avatar

Anybody with any kind of drug addiction is sad. I don’t think people should be doing drugs at work, same way I don’t think people should drink at work.

  26. RunNo599 Avatar

You went and made yourself sad. That’s honestly kind of sad, especially since you don’t know wtf you are talking about

  27. spanishgypsy Avatar

Wait. You gave who a BJ? Sorry if I missed something. I’m really high.

  28. Zestyclose-Split2275 Avatar

They are simply addicted. It’s easy for you to say all you just said, when you’ve clearly never been addicted.

I’m 22, and i’ve already had addictions to nicotine and alcohol. They were only short addictions, but during them, i also kinda felt that life just wasn’t worth living, without them.

And it makes sense. When you spike your dopamine all the time, your base level dopamine drops, meaning that everything, other than the drug, becomes dull.

So maybe get down from your high horse. Have some empathy and understanding. We are not all the same. Everything isn’t equally easy for everyone.

  29. pr3tty-lush Avatar

Ugh I’m so tired of the “I’m Gen X, we aren’t soft” and then you get on the internet and complain about stupid shit.

  30. Alternative_Put_2362 Avatar

Yeah I keep seeing this too. I actually agree even though I smoke a lot, but I only smoke at night because I feel so dumb while high 😂. No clue how people do it and go about their day and work, I guess it’s just another way of life.

  31. Tryin-to-Improve Avatar

I used to do it to get high. Then I did it in very small quantities because it is better pain relief than Tylenol and other things that are toxic long term.

  32. metalmankam Avatar

You’re misunderstanding. It’s not that life is too hard. “Oh this customer wants a refill, idk what the fuck that even means I need to go get high first this is just too much.” That’s not what’s happening. It’s that this poor man’s bullshit ass waiter job is so disgustingly unfulfilling that the he doesn’t give a single fuck and would rather get high and zone out. And it’s completely valid. Beyond the job, have you seen the world lately? We’re watching the entire world crumble to bits we have the full play by play. Often times I tell myself I don’t need to smoke as much I’m doing okay and then I see today’s world news fuckery and what BS orange man is up to today and how bad it’s going to destroy my future so I say fuck it and go light up again. We can’t handle watching the entire world burn in front of our eyes, that’s pretty fuckin understandable. Life is short and being high feels good anyways.

  33. darkness_thrwaway Avatar

Employee would’ve ghosted you high or not. You don’t seem like the kind of person that’s easy to help and they don’t get paid enough for that.

  34. Castyourspellswisely Avatar

One employee not doing their job at BJs?? Just go ask someone else instead of being a boomer and clutching your pearls lmao.

  35. Dry-Photograph-1939 Avatar

I do everything stoned. It is kind of pathetic. I’m too high functioning.

  36. hotviolets Avatar

I’ve got this lovely thing called PTSD and marijuana helps with it.

  37. ShamisenCatfish Avatar

    > I’m Gen X. We are not the soft ones.

  38. Slawth_x Avatar

“I’m gen x. I’m NOT soft or easily offended!”

Unless you experience mild annoyance with a restaurant employee?

  39. Nixxote Avatar

Look man I hear you. it is sad but as someone who uses weed every day I don’t feel good enough about myself or anything else to stop.

As pathetic as it looks it feels more necessary than it actually is and no I’m not proud of it at all.

  40. Back6door9man Avatar

Idk how this is even remotely an unpopular opinion. Yeah, people relying on intoxicants to get through life is sad. Not exactly a hot take.

Also “I’m gen x, we can handle everything” being said non ironically is embarrassing.

Also also, are you really comparing working as clerk to being a surgeon? Lol this is a terrible argument.

  41. Popular_Prescription Avatar

Or just mind your business. If they are productive and support their family I don’t see the problem.

  42. 1011001NAME Avatar

I don’t think “having a drug addiction is bad” is an unpopular opinion.

  43. jaybee_the_Kumo Avatar

Yet I never hear this when it comes to alcoholics. I worked with people drunk as hell in work environments that would get someone killed but everyone looks the other way while the guy who smokes get shitted on and fired.

I seen drunkards come to work to drive machines that can cause death, cause fights and arguments with coworkers and/or customers, while I was in the military, this guy came to work drunk as hell, got extra duty and proceeded to come to that drunk as well.

Most people can’t just handle life and that’s fine. We’re all trying to do our best with what we know.

  44. frisbeemassage Avatar

If you’re true Gen X then you wouldn’t give a fuck about how other people live. You had one interaction with someone who was stoned and decide to get all irate about “people that can’t handle life”. Lol that’s the pot calling the kettle black. Remember our Gen X motto is WHATEVER! Sounds like you ARE turning into a boomer

  45. Major-Rabbit1252 Avatar

I mean, truly, how often do you go to a store and get bad service bc the employee wonders off due to being stoned? That almost never happens. Sure, it may have happened once or twice, but it’s not some epidemic

  46. veronibug Avatar

I get where you’re coming from. I used to be that way, couldn’t even go to a kid’s birthday party without being a little high. It didn’t work out for me, I was numbing myself to life because I still had things I wasn’t dealing with from my past. That’s usually the reason most people do it, they just don’t want to accept they need to work on themselves instead of numbing themselves. Again, this is coming from an everyday, multiple times a day ex smoker 👍 it sounds harsh but life is harsh and it’s important to learn how to navigate it sober, otherwise you stunt yourself and kind of have to relearn proper socialization once you quit, because life just feels so strange and fake. Being high becomes your new normal & the real world seems more scary & intense than ever, thus creating a vicious cycle where you feel you need to be high to feel “normal” again because it becomes your new normal depending on how often you do it

  47. apeezy18 Avatar

I smoke everyday. Once I’m off work and done with all my obligations, I toke up. But I can’t go out in public like that. I commend the people who can. I bet their emotions are alot more chill.

  48. Ok-Drink-1328 Avatar

i don’t get it, are you blaming inefficient clerks, or reminding sad people that they are sad?…. plus comparing a clerk to a surgeon, yes, nice one

  49. Simple_Anteater_5825 Avatar

Weed ain’t cheap, money is tight, but somehow people find a way?

  50. love_salubrious Avatar

My personal opinion is that just smoking to smoke is your choice but when you are on the clock you should be alert and focused. So if you smoke at home after work, or on your days off that’s not going to affect work. I wouldn’t say you are in the wrong for not appreciating the lack of professionalism.

  51. t0z-k1ng94 Avatar

It may not be healthy, but smoking was the only thing to keep me moving when my father passed. Was it the best way to deal with it? Definitely not, but it was better than shoving my gun in my mouth. Sometimes the world is too dark to face sober.

  52. v3ndun Avatar

The statement is unpopular.. but the supporting body is more or less popular. Being high isn’t a problem… it should be related to alcohol consumption and effects.

Arguably so should vaping and smoking in general.

The only drugs generally supported/promoted in the workplace are thing to make you faster, caffeine/sugar…

It’s like coffee. People swear they NEED coffee to function and without it they are unbearable. It’s a drug that’s alters the mind and you have to detox yourself off of it before you get clarity.

  58. Feral_doves Avatar

How long until it’s millennials telling people who didn’t ask that we’re tough and can handle anything while also expressing that we simply cannot handle poor customer service?

I feel like ten years ago it was the boomers complaining and Gen X was calling them pearl clutchers?

You sure you’re not just getting old and entitled? Seems like it happens to every generation when they start hitting a certain age. Stop worrying about other peoples’ lifestyles and expecting minimum wage workers to do more than the bare minimum.

  59. Bob1358292637 Avatar

I dont think you understand how much those kinds of jobs suck. It’s sad that people have to do those jobs, but weed is like a gift from God that makes it more bearable. I dont know what to tell you if you don’t like the service you’re getting. This is the society we chose to live in. Those workers get treated like absolute shit and barely get compensated for it. There are only so many fucks you can give in life when it treats you like that. They would probably have less to give without weed, so you should probably be thankful they have that escape.

  60. PerfectChard4439 Avatar

GenX here. Also a weed smoker.
So…Yeah – would it be annoying that the stoned idiot was worthless and unable to help? Yes. Would I then hold on to it and turn around and rant about it to anyone who would listen? No.

  61. SillyAlternative420 Avatar

When companies pay low wages and avoid giving benefits (because they structure shifts to be sub 40 hours), requiring people to live with 5 roommates, and make taking time off near impossible… Yea I fully expect employees to be high at work.

Surprised homie wasn’t on fucking meth.

Maybe if employers took care of employees like they did when you were 20 we could reasonably expect a higher quality of employee. But the race to the bottom is happening on both sides of the employment equation.

  62. JeNn_DeViLz Avatar

Bruh i test WAY better high than sober. I smoke weed all day everyday. My bf and i smoke constantly. We are 6 months ahead on bills and rent plus savings! I won’t stop consuming cannabis. Ever. I wanna grow weed in space

  68. scarletdragonflyfl Avatar

and your solution is? It is a pretty sad world and I fully support anything that helps people deal with it. Otherwise, let’s open up medically assisted suicide as an option to anyone who can’t deal. Sometimes life really sucks, sometimes you want to escape… sometimes that feeling is almost all the time. While I don’t do drugs, sometimes I wish I could. I simply can’t due to my profession. I would also probably go for the medical option because life seems pretty pointless and full of suffering. There is a real lack of compassion in the world. Maybe if social services like therapy and “legal” medications for distress were free for everyone on earth there wouldn’t be so much needless suffering and use of drugs to escape. I remember when I really needed help and reached out to a therapist who helped me in the past. She simply said, “I am in private practice now and can’t help you.” That really stuck in my brain that even people who are in social services are just collecting a paycheck and a lot of them do not care! What are people supposed to do? I am so glad you have such a happy life, but I wish people like you would provide solutions instead of judging people for things you don’t understand.

  69. Mr_Fluffybuttz Avatar

By the your reasoning anyone who needs antidepressants or anxiety medication are also sad people the?

  75. Barefoot_Herbalist11 Avatar

I work in the cannabis industry and absolutely love my herb. That being said, I’m not one of these people who think they need to blaze every day. I spark up on my days off when I want to unwind, connect deeper with myself, or to get symptom relief. 99.9% of my customers though are all day/every day consumers. They can’t function without it. They come in every day asking for higher and higher THC products because what I sold them last time just wasn’t enough. It’s sad. Trying to have a conversation with them about maybe taking a tolerance break or trying some CBD instead only leads to angry outbursts or eye rolls. With higher THC products readily available, I worry about the mental health reprecussions down the line. Shit, even currently.

We talk about alcoholism but you never really hear about chronicholism. Lol.

  76. UserM16 Avatar

Weed is a cope just like alcohol.

  77. KitKatKnickKnack88 Avatar

I don’t drink, smoke, etc. any of that stuff, and have had people who don’t know me tell me that lifestyle is boring. And yet, I laugh hard and act like an idiot on my own accord and remember it all the next day without a headache.

I also know plenty of pot heads who need it emotionally to cope and can’t remember shit, plus have trouble functioning in their day-to-day (disclaimer, that is not everyone. A few of my pot head friends are highly functional, capable, and lead fulfilling lives). I also tell people I always worry about what it is doing to you physiologically, since more serious studies are coming out now that the scheduling class has changed and revealing new data every day.

My reaction? You do you, boo. But don’t shit on my parade in the process.

  78. Melgel4444 Avatar

I have chronic pain & bad migraines so smoking keeps my pain at a manageable level so I can perform my daily tasks. Without weed I function less lol everyone’s different

  79. CynfullyDelicious Avatar

What an utterly stupid take. And I’m GenX. And someone who smoked recreationally as a younger adult who uses THC medicinally for chronic pain.

I will say that there’s a huge difference between taking a small hit before a shift in the field of customer service (retail, food service, etc) and getting so fucking blazed you’re rendered stupidly stoned, apathetic, and barely functional on the job.

I’ve worked in external and internal CS both in the retail and corporate fields for most of my adult life, and I get how stressful and frustrating it can be, but when I’m on the clock, I’m there to do my job regardless of how crap it might be. If you can’t wait 6-8 hours (sometimes more) to smoke a bowl and decompress, that’s a you problem with regard to developing adequate coping strategies to deal with the fuckery that is life. The philosophy of tuning in, turning on, and dropping out, as the Boomers called it, is a total cop out.

  80. random08888 Avatar

I hate when people have opinions that puts one group down and lifts yourself up. I don’t sit around all day thinking, “wow. If I were doing what someone else was doing I would be sooo stupid, thank goodness I’m so much better.”

“People that can’t handle life” isn’t really a phrase that shows any compassion or understanding for any level of mental health. It’s just… mean?

To me, your post sounds like coping. I’d recommend hitting a blunt 🤪

Using any substance with regularity makes you dependent on it to function normally because your brain is constantly fighting to maintain an internal status quo. If you mess with it, your brain will start to adjust chemistry to compensate. Do it all the time and boom, you’re hooked.

As someone with chronic pain and who would rather not take opiates, its the lesser of two evils for many many people. But thats just me, and idk what anyone else does with their lives as long as they arent hurting people

I don’t require weed to endure life, but it sure does make it a lot easier. Kind of like I don’t require ibuprofen to survive a headache, but it sure does make it much easier.
