People that have moved from City to City, or Country to Country, why the move? And how’s it like?

r/

Was it expensive to do such a move?

I moved from Wales to Australia because I liked it there when I visited. It was great. Wasn’t expensive.

I moved from Australia to Japan to meet a girl. It was great. Wasn’t expensive.

While I haven’t done much international travel, here in the US, I have moved around quite a bit. Started as a military brat moving whenever my dad was restationed. Ending up going to a different school every year from 4th grade in Guam to my first year of college in Virginia.

After that I spent 10 years in Austin Texas, living in 7 different places. Then Phoenix Arizona for 3 years. The last couple I have been living in a motorhome full-time and rarely spend more than a couple weeks in any given city.

So, “why the move?” I suppose a little bit of wanderlust, but honestly, why not? I don’t have kids, I intentionally don’t have a lot of stuff, and I can work remotely, so moving is pretty easy. Heck when I lived in apartments in Austin, there was usually an apartment complex offering a sign-in bonus which covered an intra-city move…the move was basically “free”. Sure, it was annoying weekend to move, but a lot better than cleaning the house. 😉

As for “how’s it like?” Great if you like new experiences. I’ve been to 49 of the 50 states and most of the US territories. I technically “live” in South Dakota for legal purposes but am rarely there. It’s interesting how different every place is, but at the same time so similar. Turns out we’re all just people, and most of us are pretty nice.

All-in-all, it’s great. Not very hard, but definitely not for everyone.
