You could find anything else in the world that could be more productive and efficient other than that job, but you look down on people who don’t like coming to the same place as you do everyday?? That’s weird.

This is a fairly common take. Workaholics are weird.

So you just hate teachers and nurses?
I never said important jobs weren’t important, you could be saving to ifes, yada yada, blah blah fkn blah. You do what your heart desires, I’m talking about working for jobs like fast food for decades of your life.

This is about as unpopular as cheese on pizza
I know way to many people like this, and they’re hard working people but just can’t break out of the cycle/ take a pay cut for a qualification, because of lifestyle inflation.
Honest job, honest money. If they are happy with long hours and low wages, that’s good enough. I think it’s admirable that they are content.
No upvote as this might be the most normal take possible lol

Taking pride in doing something and looking down on others are different things. You seem to be equating them… It’s totally fine to take pride in being a hard worker, in WHATEVER you do, whether that’s school, a CEO position, or a min-wage job. It is NOT okay to look down on others, which is a completely different quality. Plenty of lazy jerks out there, like plenty of hard-working jerks.
Not really unpopular. I think 10/10 people would always choose a higher wage and with less hours.
People who do it angrily are the same people but living a lower quality life.
Maybe they’re saving up to be able to afford their plans to get out of that situation
My parents busted their asses working long hours at shit jobs to support my siblings and I — and they were able to give us a decent upbringing.
I think that’s something to be proud of.
I feel like any job that helps put food on the table and keeps you out of trouble should be applauded cause it’s real easy to just become a burden on society. Everyone’s a cog in the machine at the end of the day so the man grilling quarter pounders is the same as the WFH guy ordering lunch in my eyes. We’ll all end up in a pine box when it’s over
Most of the people that I know who take pride in working a lot, make great money.
I agree. Its fine, and a good thing to take pride in producing high quality work. and that can coexist with clocking out at 5pm.
though I get if people are paid hourly, then the more hours they work the bigger the paycheck.
Idk man, for all of you saying this is a popular take… Where do you live?
It’s certainly an unpopular opinion in the corporate world.
In the U.S., this is an unfortunately common trait for people to have, and honestly, I agree. Anyone willing to work 60+ hours a week is insane, but I’ll add that it’s regardless of your wage; however, doing it for a low salary is even worse.
It’s bad for your health, bad for your work-life balance, and makes other people look bad because they want to have a normal life.
I’ve watched people ruin their health in call centers when overtime was available because they wanted the extra money, only to be broke around the same time they would have if they just worked normal hours, because they had to take time off to recover.
Thank you AI for your question.
This attitude is the difference between multi-generational trash and an immigrant family succeeding in half a generation.
People who take pride in working long hours for high wages are dumb.
We get one life people. Don’t waste it working to make other people rich.
What about long hours for high wages?
I know many teachers who would say you are dumb for this take.
Those are unhappy people who have unintentionally found bliss. Do what you love and you’ll never work a day rings somewhat true here, mixed with they have found glory in or accepted the fate of — we are all here to pass away. Each day will come and go, and you have to fill that time doing something. They may adopt a mindset that the only goal today is to wake up tomorrow, and this is how I will fill the hours. Again, they are unhappy people tho and will need a place to lash out their anger
I think I used to be one of those people lol
It’s a cope. They are trying to survive and retain a shred of dignity in a system that doesn’t care if they live or die.
And yes, it’s annoying when people lean into their oppression and act like it makes them better than others because they are appropriately sacrificing their entire lives trying to live up to the impossible ethic of our capitalist overlords.
Privileged take, some people dont really have the choice to find a better job or not work long hours
I don’t know people who take pride in working long hours for low wages. I know plenty that take pride in working long hours to provide for their family, or to work towards a promotion, but I have never encountered anyone who takes pride in low wages.
They have shit else. Sometimes you just need something to be proud of.
If you notice someone in high levels of cope, they might need it to keep going rather than spending every minute scrutinizing how they’re getting taken advantage of.
Not unpopular.
I don’t think anyone takes pride in themselves working long hours for low wages.
I think a certain segment of the population takes pride in our country for letting other people work long hours for low wages. They even think that will make us great again, and where red hats saying so. Not sure how, but that’s what they went with.
Maybe if your work was vital to society and the public good, I’d get it
It’s not virtuous
I would do it for a high wage and for a job I like.
Low wage, meh job, no thanks.
They’re not dumb. They’re brainwashed.
Long hours and high wages too idgaf
I used be a server at this restaurant and we made bank. But one of my coworkers quit that job to go work at pac sun for around 8 dollars hours it was mind blowing.
I would rather work 12 hours a day on 12.50 an hour as a chef/cook than work 8 hours a day in an office on £20 an hour. My job pays shit, the hours are long but I get to work with food and learn about the food I’m working with.thats more fulfilling than an office job or any 9-5…
I had a friend that ended up doing her bachelors in 8 years because she refused to not work part-time while in Uni so she kept failing classes because she didn’t have enough time to study. Her debts are literally double what they should have been because she wanted to… prove that she’s a hard worker… or something.
All she did was lose out on 4 years of job experience/pay in her actual industry and pay the university more than twice as much in tuition fees. Probably the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen someone do.
Don’t be a slave to the system it only helps others and your be replaced the next day
People say it’s a popular opinion but I know tons of idiots who truly take pride in a ton of work for shit pay. Quite frankly, even a ton of work for high pay still makes you look stupid lmao
Some work is fun
So are you going to help pay their bills? Whether I was at my very 1st job to where I am now making a very nice hourly wage. If they are hours to work, work them if you want
It’s a double-sided coin.
Someone needs to work at Macdonalds at 2 a.m. too. You want?
I actually respect these people a lot
What’s a low wage?
No matter what your station in life, you should take pride in your work. The side effect of that is a vastly higher chance at a better job with higher wages.
I worked at a lumber yard right out of highschool. It was actually a good job. Physically demanding but with down time during slow spurts from time to time, pay was okay ($20 an hour) but not a forever job.
There was this ancient old east coaster that worked the front gate who checked all the loads before they were sent out. He had worked there 20 years and was extremely proud of it. He was extremely proud that he had also never quit a job in his life, always let go due to downsizing or whatever. Super nice guy but man his values were ass backwards
Most people don’t have the luxury of up and leaving their job and in fact probably can’t achieve anymore than what they already do. Not everyone can be the boss, unfortunately that’s how life goes.
Agreed although this definitely isn’t an unpopular opinion.
I especially hate those people that’ll be like “Lol you ONLY work 40 hours a week? I remember when I had a part time job too haha” like why, why show off about working all the time and having no life outside work, even if you were earning good money for that it’s still a complete waste if you’re spending practically your whole life at work.
I recently lowered my hours to 30 hours a week, obviously it’s a big pay cut but I absolutely love being able to focus on my passions and work on personal goals like fitness instead of always working or always being too tired from work to really do anything.
In a lot of careers, you do this when you’re young/new in order to secure a much cushier, higher paying opportunity later on.
I work the holidays and stupid hours so that people with families don’t have to. Most are appreciative of my willingness to cover bad shifts. Perks of the bachelor lifestyle. I also watch their kids from time to time. Why you so judgemental?
We really are living in a Stockholm Syndrome society.
https://maarthandam.com/2025/05/21/how-long-work-hours-are-quietly-destroying-lives/
Self-destructive.
Finding purpose is important and shouldn’t be taken for granted. Some of the most wealthy people on the planet have never and will never find purpose.
I thought this sub was for unpopular opinions, not common ones.
The attitude that everyone else is supposed to do the same is ridiculous. Some people have lives or physically can’t work that many hours etc…
You work 10000000 hours a week? Cool cool =)
It’s not that I dont care im barely making above minimum, I just dont care about money and have no real place in this world so im just existing till I dont.
Some people do things because they have a choice others do things because they have no choice but to do them.
It’s especially weird, because we live in a capitalist system. If we were socialist and had extensive social services, I could see people get mad that you weren’t contributing, while taking what you needed, but this is the most individualistic society with some of the worst social services on earth. You don’t like me not working hard? Mind your fucking business!
