Pizza every week for 4yr old?

r/

My kids pre school does pizza once a week, I signed up to do 2 slices for her, pretty sure it’s not adult size slices as I have seen it once and the slice looks more like kids size. I think they get it from dominos.

Is it bad to sign up for this? We have a pretty healthy diet, on all other days we eat regular food with lots of vegetables/grains, my kid doesn’t eat any sugar (by her own choice)

My partner has been objecting on signing up for the pizza days at school saying it’s unhealthy. I’d love to get opinions as I’m conflicted on this one.

It is unhealthy, but she’s at an age where she should still be getting a relatively high caloric intake to bolster her growth. As long as it’s only for one meal per week, it should be fine.

Depends on the pizza. Some pizzas are made from excellent ingredients and are healthy. Not from a cheap take away though.

Once a week pizza is not bad at all either. Just don’t do it 6 days a week

Let the kid have pizza lmao

No but for real, closely monitoring and controlling a kid’s diet in ways that other them or ostracize them from their peers is a one way ticket to an eating disorder. You’d rather your kid have something potentially processed any day over developing shame about food.

If the kid really shouldn’t have pizza and is at no risk of being ostracized for abstaining, you should pack them food that both you and your child approve of. Truly, giving the kid even the illusion of agency is likely what’s best here.

Let them be one of the gang, not the ostracized weirdo.

Let the poor kid eat the pizza.

Good overall diet and lot’s of running around at pre-school, let kids enjoy these types of food in moderation. Plus she’ll be joining in with everyone else on the fun pizza lunch day.

We have to stop this bad mouthing on hamburguers, pizzas, and such.

So I grill for my kid a burger made with lean meat (pork and beef), a nice toasted bun, rich gouda cheese, big slice of tomato, some ketchup and mayo. One of his favorite meals.

Then, one day, he comes back from kinder and asks me why some people say hamburgers aren’t healthy food… wtf…

This is totally fine! They’re learning to enjoy appropriately

You sound like a perfect parent in regards to diet. The vast majority of parents feed their children garbage most of the time, with little effort trying to keep them on a healthy diet. I’m from a household where I got yelled at growing up for not wanting fast food 3x a week.

Just let them have the pizza. It is unhealthy but a treat is fine once and a while. It’s not like you’re feeding your child junk 24/7 already. Plus socially its good too for ur kid.

Honestly though idk how much of a ‘treat’ dominoes is. its kinda disgusting, pre-school could at least buy the pizza from a nice local shop or something.

If you restrict their diet too much, they might end up gouging themselves once they get more freedom. Everything in moderation for a healthy relationship with food.

It’s once per week. If you eat healthy at home, it’s really ok.

I genuinely don’t understand why people think pizza is particularly unhealthy. If you break down the ingredients in pizza, they are pretty much identical to most pasta dishes. Its really just bread, cheese, meat, tomato, and maybe a few vegetables. If you supplement it with a salad, it’s a pretty balanced meal.

I get it, bread…particularly white bread is high in carbohydrates and should be eaten in moderation. You can make bread and pizza crust healthier by adding whole wheat flour instead of just white flour. The meats and cheeses in pizza are somewhat high in sodium, but that isn’t all that big of a deal unless you have blood pressure problems. The meats and cheese also have a decent amount of fat, but fat isn’t actually all that bad unless you have specific cholesterol problems. However, pre-school kids don’t have to worry about this, especially when they already have a healthy diet as a baseline. Frankly, in the American diet, our problem is that we consume way too much sugar and simply aren’t active enough. Assuming pizza consumption is in moderation, it really isn’t all that bad for you.
