Please Help! Issues With a Drug & Alcohol Rehab Center

TLDR below.

My partner was inpatient at a drug and alcohol rehab facility this summer. While they were there, the facility: 1) made mistakes with their medications; 2) overcharged us (confirmed by our insurance; we paid the amount the facility said was allowable by insurance when my partner checked in and are now trying to get a refund); and 3) sent my partner to a private “community hospital” that the facility has a contract with twice while making it sound as if it were covered as part of rehab bill – turns out that the community hospital does not take any kind of insurance and is a separate bill from the rehab facility that we are now on the hook for.

The rehab facility also committed a multitude of HIPPA violations which my partner documented, have cats that they didn’t feed for almost a week (which caused my partner great anxiety and I think would qualify as animal cruelty), and is advertised as using evidence based practices while not actually doing so, as well as a number of other things that are probably not actionable.

When my partner or I call the facility, all the menu options go to voicemail, and they do not return our calls. Our insurance has also called them multiple times and left voicemails on every extension, but also never received a call back. We are also trying to get a copy of my partner’s medical records during their stay, but they do not answer the phone and do not return our calls.

I am at a loss as to what to do since they will not return our calls. Is this something a lawyer would even take on? If so, what type of lawyer would we need? If not, any suggestions for next steps would be greatly appreciated!

TLDR: Partner was inpatient at a drug and alcohol rehab facility that made mistakes with their medication, overcharged us (confirmed by insurance), and sent them to a “community hospital” that they have a contract with while making it sound like it was included the rehab bill — now we are on the hook for thousands to that “hospital”. They do not answer the phone, every menu option goes to voicemail, and they will not return our calls or the calls from our insurance. Please help – what do we do?
