Plumbing company threatening legal action

r/

Location: western Montana. VERY long story short. Hired a plumbing company that made a mistake and resulted in me hiring another company that cost me $9k to fix their mistake. I already paid original company $10k with a balance of $11k. They told me 1-3 days at $150/hr. Which that math doesn’t add to $21k but that was a whole other fight. The owner came over reviewed his plumbers work and using his words strongly implyied we didn’t owe anymore money. 4 months later (yesterday) I got a letter and an invoice for $4k saying if I didn’t quickly pay they would do whatever “necessary steps” and come after the original $11k owed. 1.) does this sound like something I have a solid fight on? I screwed up and didn’t get an quote on paper, was just hand shake on original agreement price. I’m aware that was dumb. And the only proof I have of the owner coming over admitting they screwed up was my girlfriend being present. 2.) what kind of lawyer do I need if I want to take legal action first? Thanks
