To my fellow law enforcement officers:
Our team frequently encounters situations requiring access to various apartment complexes within our jurisdiction. Currently, we often face the challenge of needing multiple access cards or relying on property management/citizens for entry. We currently possess only one RFID key card that works for our own building.
I’m curious to know if any other agencies or individual officers have found or implemented solutions to streamline access to multiple apartment complexes that utilize RFID entry systems. Specifically, I’m wondering if anyone has experience with or knowledge of:
-
A single RFID card or device that can successfully grant access to different apartment complexes utilizing different RFID frequencies or systems.
-
Any tools, technologies, or established protocols that allow for more efficient access to multiple RFID-controlled apartment complexes without needing individual fobs or relying solely on property management.
-
Best practices or workarounds your agency employs to navigate access challenges at apartment complexes with RFID security.
If you have any insights, experiences, or information regarding the feasibility or existence of such multi-frequency access solutions for law enforcement, or any alternative strategies you’ve found effective, please share. Any information regarding technical limitations, security considerations, or potential solutions you’ve encountered would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time and input.

Just a heads up, no one should be posting on an open forum with unverified members how they are getting in for a variety of reasons.
So you probably won’t get much info.
We have RFID card access buildings in our jurisdiction, but the apartment buildings also have key pads as well – the entry codes for public safety come up on the call log on the MDT for us.
Knox box. There is a police variation departments can buy into and then co nvince willing property owners to keep site keys in the boxes.
This is your best bet. Lots of fire departments mandate buildings have them now as a fire prevention matter, but LE boxes are usually separate systems from the mandated FD ones, for obvious reasons.
One option is something like a flipper zero that you could copy all the complexes access cards onto. Then you’d just have to search through your library of saved codes on the flipper zero when you needed one. Not the cheapest option but it would work.
