Hey guys I’m wondering if this is even allowed but
Me and my husband own a tattoo shop in Texas
And recently
In the period of a week
Cops have visited our business
Once around 11pm
While we were closed our hours are
3pm-10pm
We have neighbor that lives behind the tattoo shop in his home
He let us know a cop flashed a light in our tattoo shop looking inside the windows
At first didn’t think nothing of it
Last night my husband had a couple clients
While talking to them one of his clients informed him that a cop was outside and flashed his lights into our car and looked at our license plates without informing my husband?
We did end up speaking to a sheriff
And he let us know there is a drug house near the shop
I’m just trying to get some advice
On what to do or is it even okay for them to do that?

They are investigating. They are allowed to investigate.
Presuming these are all things they can see from public property or property they have permission to be, there’s no issue with the cops – or anyone else – doing this.
As long as they are not attempting to enter the vehicle or business when it is closed, there is no expectation of privacy from people, including police, viewing the inside of your car or business from a publicly accessible area.
