Pools are way better than the beach.

r/

Everyone acts like the beach is this magical paradise, but let’s be real for a second: sand gets everywhere.Stepping on blazing hot sand feels like walking through hell barefoot.Sand is everywhere In your shoes, your bag, your towel… somehow even in your scalp. You come home feeling like you’ve smuggled half the shore with you.

And don’t get me started on saltwater. It burns your eyes like you’re being punished for trying to have fun. Plus, waves are unpredictable—you try to swim and end up getting smacked in the face or dragged halfway down the coast.

Meanwhile, pools? No surprise attacks, no itchy salt, and zero sand in uncomfortable places. Just swim, chill, and rinse off. Simple. Peaceful. Superior.

Pools are better for swimming but beach is better for vibes and playing around

  3. Zebbyb Avatar

I don’t think this is an unpopular opinion lol

  4. Resident_Course_3342 Avatar

“The Pool Boys” just doesn’t have the same vibe to it.

  5. SupaSaiyajin4 Avatar

    both are terrible

  6. TerraeTub Avatar

I think it depends what pools we are talking about

    Private pool? Hell yeah.

Public pool in August during the holiday with a billion of kids or that all in hotel pool with a bunch of drunk Americans in Cancun (yes it’s very specific, I am still traumatised by that day) ? Nope.

  7. mearbearcate Avatar

Disagree. The waves of the ocean while swimming is amazing. I do hate the feeling afterwards from it though

  8. Xepherya Avatar

As a Black woman…fuck the beach. Do you know how hard it is to get sand out of an AFRO? Sand is nature’s glitter.

  9. IrrelevantManatee Avatar

I would take salt water over chlorine any day.

But anyway, it really depends on what you are trying to achieve. If all you want is swim, beach is not going to be ideal. If you want to chill for a day, the concrete of the pool is not what is going to keep you the more entertained.

If you have kids, a day at the beach is the best.

  10. Icy_Construction5602 Avatar

Springs are the best. Better than pools & beaches but yes I would put beaches last as well. Ocean water is gross

  11. Goddamitdonut Avatar

Depends both are great.  A resort pool can be better than a dingy beach but a beautiful beach day is so much more rewarding and relaxing

  12. tweedchemtrailblazer Avatar

Both are wrong. Rafting on a river is the best way to enjoy water. And it’s not even close.

  13. ArtisticRiskNew1212 Avatar

Being in a boat is the best

  14. NullIsUndefined Avatar

Outdoor pools only though. That crazy humid indoor pool feeling, I am not a fan

  15. Sundae-School Avatar

Night Beach in the summer is the best beach experience. I like to sit where the currents intersect and let the water move my body

  16. ZeroGeoWife Avatar

Also, I don’t wanna get eaten by a shark so I wholeheartedly agree with your opinion.

  17. AstroWolf11 Avatar

What are y’all doing that gets sand everywhere!?? Never understand that and every time this opinion is posted nobody responds lol

  18. Goldman250 Avatar

Sand does get everywhere. It’s also coarse, and rough, and irritating.

  19. guywithshades85 Avatar

I agree with this because I don’t like sand. It’s course, dry and irritating and it gets everywhere.

  20. gio_profs Avatar

This! Also, please, no salty water on swimming pools!

  21. Semicomedic_Truther Avatar

    Doesn’t bother me…. It’s worth it!
This is like saying walking the sidewalk is better than taking a hike through the woods.

  22. AdImmediate6239 Avatar

You can’t surf in a pool though

  23. Apprehensive_Map64 Avatar

Public pools are nasty as hell, no thanks

  24. Technical-Platypus-8 Avatar

    Definitely an unpopular opinion

  25. jovianplutonian16 Avatar

I feel like you just have a shitty beach. A good beach solves all of lifes issues.

  26. Creepybobo67 Avatar

The Saltwater is actually really good for your skin.

  27. [deleted] Avatar

People piss in pools, if it’s not mostly empty, I’m not interested. Swim up pool bars are like 53% urine.

  28. nappingondabeach Avatar

Lake Erie is awesome for swimming. Pools are ok, but inferior

  29. hello_im_al Avatar

I need the beach, that’s how I grew up

  30. AdditionalAd9794 Avatar

I agree, beaches are only good for fishing. Even then all you really catch is surf perch or given the right time of year, right now, you could catch striped bass.

That said, rocks and cliffs are kind of better for fishing anyway

  31. Muhiggins Avatar

Waves are the reason you go to the beach. It’s fun to bob up and down in them. Ride them. Surf them.

  32. Ill-Explanation4825 Avatar

The beach has always been my family’s “bad day” and weekend place since I was little. As an adult, the beach is my first place I go to when I’m having a rough time.

The pool is less messy and easier to go to by just walking out your door but something about the sound and smell of the ocean is good for your soul. And paired with a pub sub it’s the perfect day

  33. TheFfrog Avatar

I see your pool and raise you the lake

  34. Pop-metal Avatar

Beaches are free. Not hot in morning and afternoon.

  35. manored78 Avatar

I prefer lakes especially one with a beach, shore. But I also went to a small beautiful island in the Dominican Republic and found it clean and fun to swim in. It all depends.

  36. pinniped90 Avatar

Going for a run on the beach at sunrise, or a walk with my wife at sunset, is awesome.

But yeah, for an actual swim, I love a good pool more than I enjoy getting in the ocean.

  37. AwayProfessional9434 Avatar

Op you know beaches don’t only exist with oceans?
There are lakes and rivers as well and both will negate most of your problems but yeah the sand is still there.
But even that isn’t always the case there are a lot of stone Beaches.

  38. funktonik Avatar

Yes. Don’t go to the beach people.

  39. jambr380 Avatar

I agree about the sand, but unless it’s a massive luxury pool without a lot of people, I just can’t get over the fact that so many people pee in pools and go in without showering or properly wiping down there

  40. Hot-Image4864 Avatar

Beaches are their best when you’re watching the sunrise.

  41. shyguyshow Avatar

As a person who gets sunburns in March, yes.

  42. Working-Try-1167 Avatar

The beach is too sandy, the sun is too bright and the water is too wet 🤮

  43. Virtual-Emu3698 Avatar

As someone who has an intense & ginormous of open bodies of water AND swimming. Let me say, I think they both suck, so fuck oceans, seas, lakes, pools etc. That’s all.

I always forget how much the beach annoys me until I get there. Yet, I’d miss it if I don’t go once a year.

It’s annoying. The sand… the heat… the water isn’t that clean and there’s sometimes seaweed… every ones around and close to you. You want to have lunch but the sand sticks everywhere and it’s annoying to carry everything. The towels or beach mats never stay put. The umbrella always flys away.
Then you have to get yourself to the hotel and wash yourself… you’re a whole family having to shower and wash your hair… my hair alone is a pain the ass the wash and especially to dry. It’s hot and humid and ugh…

But I’d be sad not going. There’s still something therapeutic about it.

  46. PocketNicks Avatar

If sand and salt are causing you so much pain, you seem very fragile. Life must be difficult to live that way.

  47. CaptainCayden2077 Avatar

It’s not about going to the beach for the beach. It’s about the experience with the people you love.

  48. phunky_1 Avatar

The ocean is usually way too cold.

I would argue that a hot tub is better than both a pool and the ocean lol

  49. idonthaveanaccountA Avatar

You should not open your eyes in the pool…

  50. tossadelmar Avatar

    Ever been in a lake?

  51. idiot_with_no_name Avatar

Water parks are far superior to both

  52. Purlz1st Avatar

I love the NC beaches. In August that Gulf Stream water is like a warm bath. I walk on the sand at sunrise and evening and the sound of the waves settles my soul.

I put a toe in the Pacific Ocean once and it nearly froze before I could pull it out.

  53. Soatch Avatar

I moved to Florida. The beach was fun the first couple years but now I find it boring.

I moved to an apartment with a great pool and that is better. I can bring a cooler of drinks and not have to worry about driving. I can grill stuff. I can talk with some of my neighbors.

  54. chitterychimcharu Avatar

Body boarding is the most fun way I’ve ever done the scorpion

  55. blutigetranen Avatar

In my experience, unless it’s a private pool, pools are fucking gross

  56. ReturningAlien Avatar

Seems to me a lot of yall haven’t seen a lot of beaches. Like calm ones, crystal waters, and no sudden change of depth like very wide pool.

  57. lzd_420 Avatar

Lake is the best of two worlds

  58. Lengurathmir Avatar

OP loves chlorine, urine and other things then 🙂

Those don’t exist in the Ocean (where I live anyway) in any measurable quantities

  59. jasonology09 Avatar

I’m just not a beach person. There’s just nothing for me to do there. I don’t want to tan, it’s hot, I don’t want to deal with sand everywhere.

  60. Mag-NL Avatar

    Lakes beat both.
