Post Malone’s music was better when he was doing rap/pop.

r/

I think that his switch over to only country was not a good move. Sure, his songs aren’t bad and some of them are catchy, but his rap/pop stuff was much more musically diverse. I first became a fan back in 2015 when he released “White Iverson”. Everyone called him a one-hit wonder and “just another white rapper”, but he wasn’t. Stoney, Beerbongs and Bentley’s, and Hollywood’s Bleeding followed in the years after and were all critically acclaimed. I would argue that Hollywood’s Bleeding is one of the best albums of the last decade.

To go from something so musically diverse as Hollywood’s Bleeding to only country music feels like a step in the wrong direction. He should have stuck with making music like in Hollywood’s Bleeding, where it wasn’t quite rap, not quite pop, and not quite rock, but a blend of different genres. There was definitely room to add country into the mix, and he could have successfully pulled it off. Post Malone has said in the past that the music he makes is not defined by genres, so why did he just switch over to making just country music now?

I’m not saying that he should quite country entirely, but he should go back to making rap and pop music as well.

He was awful as a rapper

Nah, his country music is pretty catchy

He never wanted to do rap music, it has a low barrier to entry, and him being white definitely helped rocket his way into stardom. It was an ends to a means. Had he started out doing country he would be nowhere near as successful. I agree with you. It’s also kinda shitty how he used the rap community to get fame then abandoned it.

    He’s doing country now?

With the niche sound post Malone had at the time I don’t think any one over 33 would ever like or get it because the sound he had back than was really popular among my generation which is 19-26

I hate that pop artists do country just because its the latest cool thing. At least Malones is decent. Beyonces on the other hand…

I’m sure he does music because he enjoys it, not specifically because others do.

A family friend of ours has had a very good career in country music after doing rock for a couple decades. Ya know why? Country music is easy, the fans are easy, the effort required is minimal while the gains can be massive, especially now that country music is seemingly topping every other genre. It only got easier and the rewards got bigger

No; his music was never good…

I miss corn row post Malone. And I’m a country fan. Some of his country music is catchy, but I’m personally not a huge fan of it. It’s way too generic top 25 modern Nashville sound for me.

He kinda had a cool thing going as a rapper. Kind of unique compared to other mainstream artists. I wish he’d go back.

I’m just waiting for Bilmuri to open for Post Malone one day

I think his country music is decent. A lot of fans wanted him to do a country album after he did covers of “I’m gonna miss her” and “you can have the crown” that are on YouTube- so he did. But yeah, I could go without ever hearing “I had some help” ever again. He’s always been a very pop version of each genre as far back as Stoney, so that’s what F-1 trillion is- pop country.

Completely agree. When he was rapping or singing pop songs way better. I don’t even listen to his country stuff

Is that unpopular? I feel like he was way more popular in that era but maybe I’m out of touch

His rap shit is fucking terrible and wasn’t “diverse” at all (what does that even mean?). He’s way better now, both musically and live. Have an upvote.

Hollywood’s Bleeding is one of the best albums of last decade only if we take into account the top 20 spotify most listened artists and still cut off a couple of them

I think it was all bad lol I liked a few of his songs when he did hip hop, but the sound was definitely starting to get stale. Now I can just completely ignore him at least
