Publishing a chapter in an anthology

r/

Hello everyone!

I am a pretty junior academic (just finished my master’s in Literature) and a while back I submitted a chapter proposal for an anthology. To my immense surprise (and joy!) it was accepted, and the editors are lovely and really seeking to support young academics. However, as I have no prior experience, and no strong ties with my university (my MA thesis supervisor just got retired and we didn’t have a close relationship to start with), I have begun wondering about costs. Is it general practice that in this case, the publishing house covers the costs? Or are contributors expected to pay? The publishing house is based in the UK (I actually don’t know if I should say the name? I’m not srure if it’s ok). Sorry if this is silly, I honeslty had no idea where to seek this information, and asking the editors outright made me feel extremely awkward.

You don’t pay to publish (and if any editor asks you for money, you should run). Enjoy your publication – be kind to copy editorsÂ
