pyjamas are just waste of money and fabric

r/

“oh but pyjamas are more comfy”….why don’t we normalise buying comfortable every day cloths so that we can be comfortable all day long and not just at night? “oh but they are cute”… no one isn’t going to see them. You will wear them only when it’s night and will change out of them first thing in the morning. They are just over consumerism in my opinion.

    You sleep naked, don’t you?

  3. WicketTheSavior Avatar

    Pajamas are my work attire.
Here’s my upvote for the unpopular opinion!

  4. ThereAndFapAgain2 Avatar

I used to think this and would sleep naked most nights. Then one Christmas I was gifted some lovely pyjamas, really nice quality, so I tried them and I honestly can’t believe I’ve gone most of my life without them.

I forgot to pack my pyjamas for a holiday last year and ended up sleeping naked and it just felt wrong, so I tried wearing shorts and a t-shirt. It was like 50% as good as my pyjamas.

Getting home at the end of the two weeks away and finally putting on my beloved PJs was one of those moments in life that just hits different.

Ummmm I guess I’ll just start sleeping in my comfy jeans??

Your opinion of what is classified as “comfortable everyday cloths”. To you, does that mean leggings and sweatpants? And why would I wear my everyday clothes to bed? To me comfortable everyday clothes is jeans.
My pyjamas are pairs of mens boxers…

I truly don’t understand the premise of your opinion. Or what difference it make?

  6. Skeltrex Avatar

Depends on the weather. Some form of covering is necessary in colder weather. Not everyone can afford central heating.

Having said that, none of our sons have pyjamas. If they wear anything it’s usually underpants (but you’ll appreciate that I’m not in a position to observe how they sleep).

I don’t wear anything if I can get away with it

  7. AppropriateTough6168 Avatar

Idk why I just love pyjamas. Like yeah there are comfy clothes but I feel like it doesn’t amount to the comfiness of pyjamas.

At least this is actually an unpopular opinion so my upvote is now yours.

  8. peskyChupacabra Avatar

I live in a city and I’m not hanging around my house in clothes I wore out, let alone get anywhere close to my bed in them. Even if I lived in the country, still not doing that.

  9. KrisHughes2 Avatar

Pyjamas (or whatever) are the clothes I put on when I get out of bed if it’s cold and I’m not getting straight into the shower.

As a female, I refuse to buy anything with frills, hearts, puppies, pastel colours, or suggestions that I’m anyone’s “mommy”. Men’s pjs are good. You can get black ones with trousers that are actually long enough.

How anyone can sleep clothed has always baffled me.

  10. Acminvan Avatar

I don’t think people care anymore about the original purpose of things. People want to be comfy and will wear anything they want wherever they want.

The number of people I see now walking around in public wearing those flannel pj’s- even though they are clearly sold as Sleeping Pants or Pyjamas and sold in the sleepwear departments – demonstrates this.

The line between public and private clothing has long ago vanished.

  11. Any-Class-2673 Avatar

I guess if you’re single and/or live by yourself no one else will see them, but for some of us we do have other people who exist in our homes and even in the same bed as us!

  12. TheresACrossroad Avatar

They’re only a waste if you buy them despite not wanting them, i guess. If someone prefers sleeping in pajamas, i feel like that’s not a waste for them. I just sleep in underwear so i don’t really get it. Stopped wearing pajamas when i was like 8

  13. sunnynihilist Avatar

    Haha exactly my thoughts.
It’s a waste of time taking them on and off too.
    I just wear comfy clothes.

  14. alvysinger0412 Avatar

I wear day clothes that are meant to go outside and pajamas aren’t, but they’re more comfortable than outside clothes for when I’m inside and staying inside.

I like to look cute for myself. Also, I have a partner and friends and other people that see me.

You can just wear beige sacks everywhere if you don’t care but other people aren’t so strictly utilitarian with something as diverse as clothing styles.

  18. Kosmopolite Avatar

Street clothes for the street. Cute, clean, comfortable pyjamas for sleeping. Personally, I also have housewear for if anyone knocks on the door, so I don’t answer in my pjs. Take my upvote: you don’t understand comfort and feeling cute.

  19. HamBroth Avatar

I wear the same cut/brand of pants to bed as I do around the house, I just switch to a different pair because I don’t like tracking dirt and pet hair from the rest of the house into the sheets.

  22. Major-Dig655 Avatar

  23. Muk-Bong Avatar

Yea I wear shorts and a T-shirt to bed in the summer, however in the winter I do like my jammies, sure sweats are comfortable, but they are a bit scratchy compared to soft PJs. I guess I could buy higher quality sweatpants but they are also almost too thick for bed as well. Idk I feel like PJ pants in the winter are all you need along with a t shirt and shorts in the summer.

  24. targea_caramar Avatar

Pajamas are nothing but whatever shorts/light pants/t-shirt I wear inside whenever I have nude-intolerant people over

  25. Frankenkittie Avatar

You want to sleep in your dirty “outside clothes”, or do you want to put on new ones, therefore washing your real clothes twice as often? Or sleep in the nude? What is your suggestion?

  26. hotviolets Avatar

My stained clothes that I can’t remove become my pajamas for the most part.

  27. FancyPickle37 Avatar

I sleep naked. Pajamas are my all day apparel if I don’t have to leave the house, which is most days.

  28. SirGeremiah Avatar

I think you underestimate how cute some pajamas are, and who some people will wear them around.

  33. AGayBanjo Avatar

I like structured clothing with clean lines when I’m at work or out and about (today, creased jeans and a tucked vintage pearl-snap shirt, both starched) but at home I prefer gym shorts or my cotton jersey knit comfy pants.

I don’t wear anything to bed, but I don’t feel like having separate house clothing and out clothing is a waste (I say in my flowy robe made from reclaimed fabric).

  34. PSFREAK33 Avatar

If anything it’s the other way around…I wear comfortable clothes more often than my work/going out clothes.

  35. Hour-Watercress-3865 Avatar

My day clothes go outside, I do chores in them, I sweat in them, they get dirty. I don’t want to bring that dirt into my bed. My day clothes need to be tough enough to stand up to years of wear and wash, that doesn’t lend itself to being the most comfortable. If I shower, then put on pajamas at the end of the day, I am getting into cleaner clothes, and cleaner sheets. Those only need to be washed once a week or so, instead of daily like some day clothes.

    It’s not a comfort thing, it’s a hygiene thing.

  36. JaeCrowe Avatar

I work at a gym and sit/lay on gym equipment all day. If you think for one moment I’m bringing those germs into the place where I sleep you’re absolutely insane. (Also I sleep naked so this doesn’t matter, but still)

  37. Idk_nor_do_I_care Avatar

I will say, I have never had a problem sleeping in jeans. I always wondered why people said they were uncomfortable.

  38. MyCatIsAnActualNinja Avatar

Mine were $5 and super comfy. Comfier than sweat pants, even.

  39. liteHart Avatar

I would suggest there is another alternative to the idea of pj’s.

Some people work tight ass stick in the butt full formal jobs and its a huge plus to get home and put on your comfortable to wear, physically, and express your inner weirdo that would otherwise be a hot spot of attention in public.

I own a myriad of onesies. I don’t necessarily slip one on after work, but im certainly not saying, “Jeez, i feel like being a tie dye giraffe at work today.”

    I work in trades.

But I will agree that normalizing comfortable work/formal friendly clothes is a huge plus for society. In general, we are definitely seeing that rise in popularity.

  40. Buffyoh Avatar

Pajamas work in coldcweather; otherwise no.

  41. andstillthesunrises Avatar

I mean, if you wire your day clothes at night to they’d wear out faster. Assuming you’re saving money by using all your clothing until it’s not usable anymore, you’re not losing money because you’d replace everything less often.

The real solution that you should have put is to wear comfy clothing during the day, and then eventually downgrade them to pajamas when they are still functional but no longer work and/or outdoor appropriate

  42. TheNebulaWolf Avatar

Pajamas for sleep is the same as wearing a jacket when it’s cold outside.

  43. Nline6 Avatar

Just say you’re obese and wear cherry fleece pants to Walmart. Being trashy is a choice and that’s ok. We will judge you though.

  44. russellamcleod Avatar

Been anti PJs and anti underwear for over a decade now. Saves money and time. But then again, I like to be naked at every chance I get as well.

  45. ShadyMyLady Avatar

It isn’t really that the pj’s are comfy, it’s the fact that changing into them means your day is over and you can relax and get comfy.

  46. LazyOldCat Avatar

People who sleep with outfits on aren’t to be trusted.

  47. Weird-Sprinkles-1894 Avatar

My pajamas don’t care if I wear a bra or no; my day clothes do

  48. Imaginary-Method4694 Avatar

Pajamas are for when family is over, or I’m visiting someone’s house.

  49. Jazzlike_Cod_3833 Avatar

You are missing out, and clueless. Might as well stay that way.

  50. saggywitchtits Avatar

I wear basketball shorts to bed, they’re comfortable and I won’t be looked at weird for wearing them most places.

Jammies go way back in history, were they over-consumerism then as well?

  53. Silvanus350 Avatar

Do you enjoy sweating all over your sheets…?

Pajamas are easier to wash than my bedding.

  54. unecroquemadame Avatar

Do none of you people sleep in sweatpants and a T-shirt?

  55. ReturningAlien Avatar

When buying clothes, comfortability is my priority, materials, the fit and cut all falls under this, last is design. I’d be wearing today’s fashion only if it’s comfortable.
I wear cotton, soft, loose pants much like them pj’s.

Everybody who says the word “comfy” should be exterminated. It’s fucking “comfortable”.

  60. jackfaire Avatar

Clothing that is comfortable for day to day wear isn’t necessarily comfortable for sleeping. I wfh and most of the time I’m wearing shorts and a t-shirt. My clothing is very comfortable. Bunches up when I try to sleep in it though.

  61. -Roxaaa Avatar

have you never bought anything cute for yourself? just because nobody will see it doesn’t mean it wont make you happy

  62. Miguelwastaken Avatar

Hey man. Sounds to me like you just want to wear pajamas in public.

  63. BoopMyButton Avatar

I used to think similarly, I have changed my mind. PJs are at home wear. Everyday clothing cannot be as comfortable as pajamas because it needs to be sturdier, it needs to hold up to environment, weather, light activity. PJs don’t have those expectations. They are just soft and light and perfect.

  64. WheezyGonzalez Avatar

I wear comfy clothes all day. Tank top and soft cotton shorts. Toss a dress on that and suddenly I’m in work clothes.

So yes, agreed. Pajamas are a waste

  65. KrakBoba Avatar

i hate seeing people wear those red flannel plaid pajama pants in public it looks tacky and dirty, and it makes me think that the person smells bad or musty

  66. Dismal-Twist-8273 Avatar

I haven’t used a pyjamas since I was 4. Then I used boxers and a t-shirt till I was 12, then just boxers until 16, and since then I’ve slept naked. They are pretty pointless yes but so are piercings and I have one of those. Ultimately liking cute comfy shit is of no harm, and the “nobody is gonna see you in it” gets back to a “if it’s not for anyone else then why do it”-argument. You can do stuff for yourself because you like it.

  67. Ponce-Mansley Avatar

Idk where you live but at least in a region that gets colder in the winter, having a pair of flannel lined pj pants (~$60), and house slippers if you’re feeling extra, for evenings and lazy days is peak comfort and luxury. I don’t want all day comfy clothes because I feel comfortable, confident, and productive by putting jeans and season appropriate day layers on.

Also, home cozy is a warm, happy mindset that you can shift yourself into easily by just putting your home cozy clothes on.

  68. DTux5249 Avatar

My brother you gotta change clothes anyway; else your ass will be sweaty and rank by day break.

  69. ImpGiggle Avatar

Nah, I just prefer naked or loos clothing to any I’ve tried on so far. But if I find the “the one” I’ll buy that set and love my pajamas.

  70. brothertuck Avatar

I usually sleep in shorts and a tee-shirt, and I know people wear sweatpants and shirts, but also pj’s, and night gowns and night shirts have always been a thing. Lingerie is always going to be around in one form or other. If you don’t want to wear them and prefer to wear casual clothes, good for you, but people do like to wear sleep clothes so they can strip off the clothes and sweat from the day and put on a clean outfit when they wake up for tomorrow.

  71. akinaide Avatar

I like to walk around in comfy clothes in my home when I dont have plans outside.

Im not a person who likes to “dress up” at home to start my day. I prefer to just wiggle in my extra long shirt/hoodie type of pyjamas and do my thing/enjoy my day.
