Redditors who feel sexual attraction towards people, how does that work on drawn characters?

r/

I’m not asexual, but I never felt attracted to anyone, so I cant check for myself, but how does attraction towards drawn characters work? I find it odd that its a thing since drawings (most of them at least) look very different to real life, so shouldn’t it be too different for you to be attracted to it? I know there are fetishes for EVERYTHING and that there are people who aren’t into it cause of the reasons I mentioned, but it seems common enough to be considered normal. Also how does it being a drawing affect the attraction, if it does at all? I mean no judgement by either of these questions.

I don’t tend to find cartoons sexually attractive, Jessica Rabbit being the exception that proves the rule.

I think the answer to this question is very complicated, and probably deeply entrenched in a whole lot of psychological concepts that I am neither eloquent enough to explain nor educated enough to be familiar with. Like if you are going to question what makes people sexually aroused aside from physical stimulation or an actual perceived partner then why stop there? What about people who are aroused by porn of insects/monsters or feet pictures or that guy who fell in love with his own car? >!(I know you mentioned this already in your question, but it’s relevant. This question cannot be answered in a vacuum. It ties into the greater subject of human sexuality in general.)!<

Human sexuality is a very complex topic. But I will counter your question with another one to think about. Do you think watching video pornography is pretty normal? (Not necessarily moral, just normal) How about super-realistic-looking CGI? How about CGI that you can tell is fake if you look closely? How about CGI that is clearly fake? How about largely animation that looks hand-drawn like hentai? Where do we draw the line between normal and not normal in terms of arousal? Arousal comes not only from what we see and feel but also in our own minds, either by filling in the gaps or by fulfilling other desires/kinks through fantasy.

Maybe you could think of it like roleplaying. When people roleplay in the bedroom nothing is actually changing physically, but some people like to enhance the experience by using their imaginations. That’s kinda what attraction towards drawn characters is like. Like a visual roleplay.

I can feel attraction to real women, stylized realistic looking women with a anime touch, or just fully drawn characters.

    Most often it’s real women.

    It just happens for me.

I think it’s what the drawing represents rather than a literal attraction to the image. Like representing the real life features you find attractive.
