I recently watched Rocky 1-6 (Plus Creed 1) on streaming a few months ago. I absolutely loved them, but after thinking about it. Rocky 4 is my least favorite. It’s all just fan service with the training montage, the fight and the “U.S.A! U.S.A!” attitude.
I still like it overall, but I like the character moments in the other movies so much more than the actual fights. Rocky and Adrian’s first date on the ice rink might be my favorite part of 1, Rocky training with Apollo in 3 after he loses all his confidence, the whole dynamic between Rocky, his son and Tommy Gunn in 5 I think is great. 4 doesn’t really have anything like that.
I know everyone love Rocky 4 for the memes and the 80’s cheese, but these movies are so much more than that and it really exemplifies my issue with fan service in general.

It’s my third favorite. I think your opinion is truly unpopular, because Rocky 5 is terrible and Rocky 3 ain’t great either.
But if you’re gonna hate on Rocky 4, you gotta mention the robot butler!!!

Definitely unpopular. 4 had easily the best training montage and had a character death thats up there with Mickey. Mickey was at least old but Apollo was way young in comparison. 5 was just all over the place. Rockys kid went from a toddler in 4 to a teen in 5? Like I get that Stallone played the nepo card and wanted his own son in it but that was ridiculous. And a street fight? The only 1 in the entire series by the way and for good reason. I get Rocky being upset at Paulie being put down by Tommy but if he’s willing to risk his life in a street fight then SURELY he could have accepted a boxing match to improve his family’s situation. Rocky Balboa (VI) was made by Stallone because V left such a bad stench.
I’ve only ever seen 1-4 plus Creed. Out of those 4 is definitely the worst. I loved the first two because they felt so real in a certain way. 4 was just wacky, which is fine but not what I want.

I think the general Consensus is:
Rocky is an excellent character study and iconic sports movie movie.
Rocky II is a worthy sequel
Rocky III has Mr. T
Rocky IV jumped the shark but fun
Rocky V was an anticlimactic conclusion to the franchise
Rocky Balboa is a solid return
Creed is a surprisingly good soft reboot.
Creed II is still pretty good
Creed III is something I need to get around to watching

You are probably not totally alone thinking Rocky IV is low in the totem pole. Especially as it is clearly the odd man out and silliest of the bunch. Which is saying something when one of them has Mr. T.
