São Paulo, Bogotá, and/or CDMX

r/

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone has had experience in 2 or more of these cities: Bogota, Sao Paulo, and CDMX – if so which did you prefer? How do they compare?

Looking for great food, walkability, pretty architecture, good public transportation, distinct neighborhoods. Thanks for your feedback!

Been to Brazil, Colombia and Mexico.

But from the cities listed only to Bogota, I had a blast every time I visited it. Great restaurants, good food, good party, amazing people.

I’ve been to CDMX and lived off and on in Sao Paulo. I started this by thinking I would say, go to Mexico City since I really enjoyed it. It’s architecture, food, and people really sell themselves and I had a wonderful and very easy time getting around.

But here I am thinking about Sampa and getting a bit nostalgic. I would not say that Sao Paulo is easy to navigate in the same way that CDMX is. The metro, trains, and buses are a bit of a jumble. Sao Paulo isn’t off the bat pretty either but of course it has a vibe that is hard to shake. Like the lyrics: Alguma coisa acontece no meu coração/Que só quando cruza a Ipiranga e a avenida São João. There’s nothing like eating pão de queijo and drinking mate leão off the Avenida Paulista and eating pizza in Mooca. There’s always something going on at a SESC somewhere too.

So I would say if you have a Brazilian friend to take you around, Sampa is great. If you don’t have one (yet!), Mexico City is wonderful as a tourist. I think probably the best part of Mexico City is that most of the tourists you encounter are Mexicans enjoying their country and history.
