Raising tween boys is basically a full time job in preventing accidental disaster. Their frontal lobes are entirely under construction. They have zero sense of self preservation and will risk life and limb just to get a cool video for their friends. But one uncle on Reddit recently found out that sometimes the parents are actually worse than the kids when it comes to basic common sense.
The Original Poster is a dad who was doing a completely normal afternoon errand. He went to the local skate park to pick up his eleven year old son and his nephew Jack. When he arrived at the park he immediately noticed a giant crowd of kids clustered together by the fence.
Knowing that a crowd of middle school boys usually means trouble he walked over to investigate. The kids pointed out what they were looking at and it was not just a harmless garden snake. It was a literal rattlesnake.
The boys were actively provoking a venomous reptile. They were trying to get the snake to strike because they foolishly believed they would not actually get bitten. The uncle immediately went into survival mode and ordered all the kids to back away from the deadly animal.

Most of the kids possessed a basic survival instinct and backed away. But his nephew Jack decided to do the exact opposite. Jack actually stepped closer to the angry rattlesnake and shoved his phone in its face hoping to get a viral closeup video of the strike.
The uncle yelled at Jack to get away. In a moment of pure eleven year old defiance Jack actually told his uncle to hold on. Faced with a venomous reptile and a stubborn child the uncle did what any responsible adult would do. He grabbed Jack by the arm and physically pulled him out of the strike zone.
Jack glared at his uncle with pure anger. The uncle rightfully dropped a massive reality check and asked him what the f*ck he was doing. He explicitly reminded the kid that the snake could literally k!ll him. Jack responded by giving his uncle the silent treatment until his mom finally came to pick him up.
You would think a mother would be on her knees thanking the man who saved her child from a venomous hospital visit. You would be completely wrong. Twenty minutes later the sister in law called the uncle in an absolute rage. She started screaming about how he grabbed her precious angel and hurt him. She even threw in a classic line about how he is not the boy’s father.
The uncle stopped her rant and asked if her sweet little angel happened to mention the deadly rattlesnake he was actively provoking. The mom was completely clueless and asked what snake he was talking about. Realizing he was dealing with an unreasonable person the uncle simply hung up the phone.
The sister in law called back and demanded an apology for how the uncle handled her son. The uncle finally snapped. He told her to STFU and advised her to check the video on her son’s phone since the kid was recording the entire incident. The footage would prove he just pulled him out of harm’s way.
An hour later the brother finally called to clean up his wife’s mess. He admitted his son was stupid and thanked his brother for being there. But then he completely folded. He told the uncle that he still owed the angry wife an apology for telling her to STFU.
The uncle completely refused to apologize for saving a life and putting a rude person in their place. He demanded an apology from the sister in law first. The brother tried to apologize on her behalf but the uncle rejected it. The internet unanimously agrees with the uncle. You do not get to scream at the person who saved your child from a rattlesnake. What would you do if a family member demanded an apology after you saved their kid? Tell us in the comments!
NTA your SIL would have blamed you if her stupid child had been bitten. On that note kids are clueless they don’t think about death or the dangers in life. If she says anything more, especially in front of anyone ask her if the next time, “and there will be a next time” her clueless child gets into a dangerous situation would she want you to step in and save his life or if she wants help planning his funeral. Then show her pictures of a snake bite victim that should shut her up. If not tell her child protective services should be called cause she is a stupid person that should not be in charge of any child. Good job on saving a clueless kid
