I do not understand the purpose of scones. They taste underwhelming and dry and seem like someone was going for sweet-style (America) biscuits. When there are cookies or muffins, i dont know who clamoured for the creation of these tasteless monstrosities.

The British.
They are meant to be covered in jam or dipped/chased with teas as far as i know. I dont really care for them either.
Vast majority of them are trash
What type of scones are you having though?
You generally cut them in half and fill them with cream/jam etc.
My guy, American biscuits are type of savoury scone not the other way around. It sounds like you’ve just had bad scones tbh. Depending on the flavour you’re supposed to eat them with butter, or jam and cream. Usually with tea
This will probably upset some limey, but that’s actually encouraged.
I LOVE SCONES. But they shouldn’t be tasteless. Even plain ones have a bit of sweetness to them. Pumpkin scones with a maple glaze are my favorite.
You. Have. Not. Had. Good. Scones.
I love fresh scones if the baker knows what they are doing. Premade scones that come from some industrial bakery somewhere aren’t good. I love blueberry and cranberry flavor.
Stale scones are trash.
I love a good cranberry orange scone and some nice coffee
I stop at cobs bread all the time for scones. Love them. Especially the lemon blueberry ones
You’ve obviously not had an Ikea cinnamon scone.
I agree, so i made my own version… https://glowupgrub.com/raspberry-scones-with-lemon-glaze/
American style biscuits come from scones. When the Brits arrived here they still made their quick breads just with the ingredients available.
Scones are actually quite lovely. Not sure who is serving you but I am sorry you aren’t getting a tasty scone.
>They taste underwhelming and dry and seem like someone was going for sweet-style (America) biscuits.
Scones are older than America
>i dont know who clamoured for the creation of these tasteless monstrosities.
I never understand this logic. Whenever I try something new and it’s tasteless I assume it’s a shit version o whatever it’s meant to be. They’re meant to be buttery and sweet. Add on jam and butter or cream too.
When I make them at home, they are usually closer to a biscuit. I like them a little less crumbly than they are supposed to be
I concur
Have you had a scone within the UK? And was it served with clotted cream and jam?
I’m a Brit living in North America and I can say that-without exception-the scones are dry, tasteless, and cannonball-like. Even in dedicated English-style ‘tearooms’.
If scones had a personality, it’d be ‘I’m fine,’ but we all know they’re anything but.
I don’t know. A chocolate chip scone with a good cup of coffee and I’m very happy.
I 100% agree with you. I hate scones.
I made scones and took them to work with the jam and cream. I had a delegation from another team come round about a query and I thought it was odd until one of them admitted they had heard about the scones and really only came round to see if they could blag one. A a soft fresh scone is a delicious and tasty treat. They done even have to be sweet sones. A cheese scone just served with butter is delicious.
We have a local baker that supplies scones to our best local coffee shop. They are so delicious! Every other scone I’ve had has been disgusting. I live in OK, so I think it’s a miracle I know what a good scone tastes like!
So gahdamn dry and crumbly. I hate fruit fillings/jams too, as well as cream cheese, and they’re just the ultimate “…why?” To me. Never had a good one. And jam and whatever else is claimed to be “correct” for them can’t save them I don’t care
I’ve had orange & cranberry scones with coffee and that was really nice.
The Scone i had at Harrods changed my view on them
Get yourself some clotted cream and some fruit preserves of your choice. Some of them are really delicious without but the more bland flavored ones need a little help.
