Selectman Harassed me to the point of business loss & leaving town

I have a harassment order against a now former selectman. I’m desperate to know what legal action to take, and who can help me as I know there’s material here to be worked with. I’ve contacted bar associations, law offices, but no luck thus far.

This selectman also is the president of our Eagles club (I’m a member too, and used the kitchen there as my commissary kitchen for my business), owns a construction company, and has a family member who was on the state police force. I’m in Massachusetts, my mother and I both owned businesses in the same town. At first, one of the town selectman was pleasant with us, helpful getting me all set to run my food cart in town. He and another fellow selectman would frequent the bar my mother owned with her business partner.

Some issues began to arise in general in the conduct of their (the two selectman) behavior. This worsened as the relationship between her and her business partner was boiling over and falling apart. The selectman is friends with her former business partner, and began a campaign of sorts to destroy my mother and I.

He made threats that my business wont be around come time to renew. He went around telling folks that I sell narcotics, got arrested for stealing from a hardware store, solicit prostitutes, and sell stolen car parts. As the relationship between my mother and her former partner starting hitting points where legal matters were heating up, he and his fellow selectwoman-who still frequented this bar and others- would go on drunken tirades, threatening to fight her bartender, going on social media and slandering my mother and I by name. We documented everything and took several concerns to the town and state, which resulted in the select board receiving public pressure to make the changes to the board that the town has been needing. As we neared voting time for these specific selectman, they became more violent, especially the one in question here.

He was recorded on video in the bar my mother owned talking about shooting my mother. He very clearly said that he wants to shoot me, has a hole dug in his backyard already; He stated on video his plans, discussing with Eagle member(s) how he’ll carry this out. He was shown on tape on another date, saying he’ll chop me up and stuff me in my own refrigerator at the Eagles Club.

During this time where the selectman was becoming more violent and the business partnership my mother was in decline, my business was forced to close. Constant issues from the town depts (health, fire, police, fire again; repeated complaints that were unfounded and disproven), being pulled over consistently, accused of more crimes, vehicle searched, court cases, “conveniently” parking outside the apartment we were sleeping at. Between the posts he would make and him running his mouth publicly, to the sudden increase in interaction with these depts, I was forced to close my business. Time period this all took place was roughly 6 months, Dec 2024-May 2025.

I’d like to reiterate the connections this selectman had and has. His behavior derailing followed by his peers in the town hall and the police dept suddenly having all these concerns, accusations and investigations against me seems to be plotted, not coincidental.

His fellow selectman was voted out after much of her behavior became public knowledge. He resigned the day voting for his position were to take place. We had a harassment order in place by this time, and this order is still active until May 2026. We’re hoping to find some help to address the town and hold the right individuals accountable.

TL;DR
Town selectman harassed my mother and I to the point of business closure and moving towns. We have a harassment order against him and are seeking legal action against the town if applicable, the selectman as well for the harassment we suffered.
