That’s not a worrisome degree of elevation. In acute liver injury, ALT will be in the thousands. An isolated elevated ALT may not mean much. Usually, the primary care physician also checks AST, and alkaline phosphatase (AP).

Minimally elevated ALT like yours often reflects alcohol use or non-alcoholic “fatty liver” (which, in turn, is often related to being overweight). Very occasionally, but infrequently, can certain medications can cause elevated ALT.

In my opinion (cardiologist), there is no need to worry unless there are other things going on (symptoms, other known illnesses).

I just did a new panel yesterday and my test results say anything above 59u/L is concern worthy if that’s any relief. Kaiser SoCal.

I had a fatty liver when my ALT was elevated. I lost some weight and it went back to normal. I’ve also stopped drinking alcohol completely.
