Should I (18F) wait for him (19M) to ask to be official?

r/

me (18F) and this guy (19M) have been talking for around 3 months and hanging out every weekend for 2 months. he is really sweet, makes an effort to call at night and text everyday and pays for everything and we both stopped talking to other people.

i recently went to his for the weekend for 4 days and he even said i love you first. we both bought up being official but he seemed unsure. he almost asked but he said he held himself back and will in the future probably. i am not sure if its because of the distance or he seems unsure of me even though he says he’s serious.

should i wait since i like what we have right now and the only thing that would change is the label (right now when he refers about me to others im his friend or girl he is talking to). or do i bring it up and risk alienating him?

TL;DR basically dating this guy without labels, is he serious and will ask me to be official or should i talk to him seriously about it and risk losing him?

“He almost asked but said he held himself back”

Do you mean he actually said “I almost asked you to be my girlfriend but then I didn’t.” Lol

I remember being young. It doesn’t make sense.

No, if you want a relationship with him, tell him that. Don’t play chicken to see who is going to ask the other person out.

I don’t know why all the youths keep pretending there are all these in-between steps in a relationship. There is no “talking phase” before you date, and if you’ve been dating for 3 months and you’re saying “I love you” to each other, you are in a relationship.
