should i be constantly asking for my paycheck?

r/

location: California i work for a small business cleaning company and i was under the impression that my manager would be communicating to us to pick up our check every other Friday. that never happened, and when i went in to pickup my check on Friday they all looked at me like ‘what the hell is she here for?’

oh btw during my onboarding i was asked a question ive never encountered while being interviewed, such as “have you ever encountered a problem with payroll and your wages previously and how did you approach it?” that should’ve been red flag #1

i approached my supervisor this past week regarding on Wednesday when was i supposed to be issued my first and current check and she told me that the checks are here every Friday and its up to me to communicate to them to acquire my paycheck. i asked her why was i issued my check on Monday when last Friday (i did not work) I was supposed to be issued it and even when i worked that Saturday nobody gave me my check. again mentioned they did nothing wrong on their part and its up to me to reach out for said payment. also apparently they’re behind on issuing the reimbursement on gas/miles too and have no set payday for that check.

alot of their business practices are giving me a weird feeling since ive been working for almost a decade now and i have never been treated like this by any employer. so what are my rights on this? anyone know what im able to do?
