I 18F just finished highschool and need to apply to college soon but haven’t made a decision yet. I have been thinking about this day and night and still havent found an answer .
I am thinking between becoming a doctor or teacher , but the decision is far more complex than than. Becoming a doctor is a longer and harder journey but fufilling. If i do end up choosing this i may become a Pediatrician or Obstetrician bc i want to help babies. With this education i can also become a teacher in my local medical high school but it may be a long shot bc there is only one position available.
If i choose a teaching career it will be an easier journey compared to med. Less years , less stress, and less responsibility in a way. I have always loved tutoring and teaching others in a way but i am scared that it will become boring to me after a few years working.
If i choose the doctor route i will have night shifts and not a regular schedule but i will make more money and will be helping people , whil with teaching hours are more stable, summers off while still getting paid and will have more time for family and friends, but i fear atht the upcoming generations will be unbearable so still doubting.
Both have their pros and cons and i cant for the life of me make a decision ( a bit indecisive) and have tried to do so for longer than a year so please if u can help in any way I appreciate it

Is money a factor is choosing your schooling? If so, as someone who went to school for education, it is a lot cheaper to become a teacher. There are also more opportunities in terms of flexibility and skill set.
Medical schools are extremely competitive, so you should probably do some research into what it actually takes to become a doctor.
You’re overthinking this. Start pre-med, switching to education later is way easier than the reverse.
I have family that are doctors and I know teachers. What I can tell you from their experience is this;
Becoming a doctor is a long journey and at times you may feel you can’t get through it considering the workload of what you’re taught but it’s very rewarding. You will have a comfortable life and will be able to save enough for retirement.
Becoming a teacher is a shorter journey but doesn’t pay as well. All the teachers I know rent apartments and are living paycheck to paycheck.
If I had to choose a route, I’d choose the doctor route.
Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life. Follow your heart, we’re all just guessing.
Have you interned anywhere? Do it for both and see which excites you more..
why not consider nursing? it may be a nice middle ground between the two.
as someone who’s going to be a teacher the best advice i have for you is to follow your heart and your passion. think about what you can picture yourself doing day after day
Doctors have to work incredibly hard and work long hours, just so you know.
But teachers have to deal with today’s batshit parents, and get paid rather less for dealing with more crazy. Seriously, look at the teaching subs to get a picture.
Doctor. Like Jesus said, “follow the money.”
