Hi everybody! I’m 19 and I am in my first year of college. I completely provide for myself and I’m working full time so college has always been rough on me, especially because I’m currently a nursing major. I recently discovered that nursing wasn’t for me but that I wanted to pursue a different career in dental hygiene. I’ve realized that this is my dream. The only thing is, the only dental hygiene program accessible to me is a 2.5 hour drive away. I would have to make this drive probably once a week. Is this worth it for something I’m passionate about? Should I pursue it or should I continue with my nursing program since it’s more tangible. Thank you all!

In 3 years you could be fired from a job you didn’t even like. You should absolutely pursue your dreams because at least if you fail you’ll have done something you love. Besides being 2.5 hours away is hardly halfway around the world. You’ll be fine and better for it.
Is there a way to take as many courses as you can in your current major that would transfer to the new school? Then you could save a little time and money. Does the new school accept transfer credits? Is commuting the only way (right now till you get to a certain level) to attend the school?
Ask yourself all the who, what, where, when and how questions relating to moving classes, credits, any grants or money needs. Literally sit with a piece of paper and layout the path with all the pros and cons.
If it were me, I would leave no stone unturned to make life easy NOW, then make the transfer and commute only when you absolutely have to. Good luck!
Called the economics of discrimination. Best class I ever took.
Do I go to college or do I go to work?
Do I put up with short term inconvenience for long term gain or do I just do something for immediate gratification?
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
Let me add: DD214, GED, AAS, BAAS, M.Ed
Also consider just moving there, depending on logistics
Once a week is no biggie. You’re investigating in yourself. Do it.
if you don’t have children, you must follow your dreams!!
once you have them, the road is slower but possible!
Troll post?
True passion would not consider a 2.5 hour drive once a week as any sort of barrier or make you question if it’s worth it.
You’d already be gassing up and on your way.
